NX Taiwan Becomes First Japanese Company to Receive QMS Certification for Medical Devices at Its NEXT3 Warehouse in Taoyuan City

Nippon Express (Taiwan) Co., Ltd. (hereafter "NX Taiwan"), a group company of NIPPON EXPRESS HOLDINGS, INC., obtained certification on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 from the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) for the quality management system (QMS) established at its NEXT3 warehouse in the northern Taiwanese city of Taoyuan to ensure the quality and safety of medical devices (hereafter "medical device QMS certification"), the first such certification acquired by a Japanese company.

Taiwan has been tightening quality control of medical devices by, for example, requiring certification for packaging and affixing Chinese labels to medical devices imported into Taiwan from May 1, 2021. The NEXT3 warehouse acquired good distribution practice (GDP) and good manufacturing practice (GMP) certification for pharmaceuticals in April 2022 and GMP certification for cosmetics in February 2024. With the newly acquired medical device QMS certification, the warehouse is now capable of storing and processing medical devices in compliance with quality control standards, both services expected to see rising demand in future.

Equipped with air-conditioned storage and processing work areas, the warehouse enjoys a very suitable location for international logistics, being situated 15 km from Taoyuan International Airport, 32 km from Taipei Port, 53 km from Keelung Port, and close to the Nangang Interchange on the north-south Highway 1 traversing Taiwan. This latest certification will enable the facility to provide high-quality services to more customers.

Background to service development
As logistics needs become more diversified and sophisticated in line with the rapid growth of the Vietnamese economy, demand is on the rise for a north-south logistics network to serve as a key route between manufacturing bases and consumption centers. In response, NX Vietnam launched a rail transport service in June 2024 connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (approximately 1,700km) in about 48 hours (*1). This service has been well received by many customers as a high-quality service that helps reduce the environmental impact of logistics.

NX Vietnam has now launched an LCL (Less than Container Load) service to supplement its existing FCL (Full Container Load) service, utilizing its own warehouses as incoming/outgoing container freight stations (CFSs). Heavy rains in Bangladesh that began in mid-August caused extensive flood damage across the country’s eastern region, impacting more than 5.8 million people. CIIE is China's largest import fair, first held in 2018 to strengthen economic exchange and cooperation with countries around the world, promote global trade and economic growth, and encourage open global economic development. This year’s seventh expo attracted 3,496 exhibitors from 129 countries/regions, making it the largest thus far.

The NX Group took part for the seventh time in as many years, introducing its global network and its forwarding business in China at its booth. Ten members of the NX Group won top prizes at the 56th National Truck Driver Contest, held on October 26-27, including the Prime Minister's Award and first-place awards. NX Group members won three awards in the 4-ton Division, three in the 11-ton Division, three in the Trailer Division, and one in the women's division.

The competition, sponsored by the Japan Trucking Association, took place at the Japan Safe Driving Center in Hitachinaka City, Ibaraki Prefecture. Designed to allow competitors to demonstrate the advanced driving skills required of commercial truck drivers as well as their specialized knowledge of related laws and regulations, vehicle structures, etc., the contest brought together 142 winners of prefectural-level competitions to determine the best truck drivers in Japan.

The achievements for NX Group members followed a pair of top prizes at the 39th National Forklift Truck Driving Competition, held at the Chubu Truck Training Center in Aichi Prefecture on September 28-29. NX Group members won both the general division and the women's division, and six employees placed high in total, demonstrating the safety awareness and driving skills they have cultivated at the NX Group.

Guided by the motto "Safety takes precedence over everything else," the NX Group has established an internal certification system to ensure the quality of its drivers. In addition, the Group has established leadership teams at each branch office whose mandate is to improve and standardize work quality, further raise safety awareness, and enhance employee skills globally.

Hochschule Bremerhaven established a Department of Logistics in 1976, and it places great importance on producing excellent students through a variety of international programs.

This visit originated with a request to NX Germany from the Verein der Wirtschaftsingenieure fur Transportwesen (VdWT) (Association of Industrial Engineers for Transportation) to coordinate a visit to Nippon Express logistics facilities in Japan. VdWT was founded in 1983 by professors and students of Hochschule Bremerhaven’s Department of Logistics to support networking between the university and the logistics industry.

Twenty-three people participated in the tour, visiting Nippon Express business locations near Narita Airport. After being shown around Narita Logistics Centers Nos. 3 and 4, both equipped with high-quality security and air export functions, as well as the CEIV Pharma-certified Narita Temperature Controlled HUB, the participants described the experience as a very interesting one and expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to get a first-hand look at the facilities.

CIIE is an import expo organized by China's Ministry of Commerce and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government. The inaugural expo was held in 2018, and this will be the NX Group’s seventh consecutive year participating in CIIE. Last year’s expo drew 3,486 companies from 128 countries and regions, making it one of the largest exhibitions held in China.

Nippon Express (China) Co., Ltd., APC Asia Pacific Cargo (H.K.) Ltd., and cargo-partner GmbH will jointly staff the NX Group’s booth introducing the Group’s global network and its forwarding operations in China.
