https://kyodonewsprwire.jp/prwfile/release/M105098/202210057711/_prw_PI2fl_blzjPkVG.jpg

About "Green-Smart Machine"
1. Clearly identifying the machine as a smart machine suited for a decarbonized society (machine with emblem)
The emblem will be attached to machines in future orders for domestic shipments from April 2023.

2. Maturity model of machine tools for decarbonization
The "Green-Smart Machine" eliminates operator intervention required to maintain high accuracy and reduce energy usage, and achieves Level 4 of the maturity models, "autonomous energy reduction with accuracy stability," where the machine autonomously controls the equipment.

3. "Green-Smart Machine" manufactured at carbon-neutral factories
Carbon neutrality has already been achieved for the machines at the company’s three domestic factories, which are the main production factories, ahead of schedule from October 2022. These automated and smart factories have been proven to reduce energy usage and produce products with high accuracy and high efficiency.

Image3: Maturity model of machine tools for decarbonization
https://kyodonewsprwire.jp/prwfile/release/M105098/202210057711/_prw_PI3fl_rWmxd1jI.jpg

Unique technologies to realize "Green-Smart Machine":
1. Autonomously maintaining a stable, high level of accuracy
AI-based innovative Intelligent Technology, "Thermo-Friendly Concept," that combines both machine design technology and control technology and that matches the human senses has been incorporated into more and more machines since its launch in 2001. This technology, now standard on 125 models, has a proven track record in production for customers around the world with a total of over 60,000 units produced in 20 years.

2. Energy-saving system "ECO suite plus" for decarbonized society
An autonomous energy-saving function, "ECO suite plus," is incorporated as standard in Okuma's "OSP" series of NC units. It enables data analysis based on machine-operating information and equipment-specific operating information, supporting the recording of CO2 emissions for traceability. Including its predecessor "ECO suite," more than 42,000 units have been delivered since its launch in 2014, reducing factory energy usage worldwide.

3. New operation control technology for spindle-cooling systems
The cooling system, which has been constantly operating because of the heat generated by the spindle during machining, is stopped based on optimization of cooling system operation needed by the machine, even during the machining process. Demonstration tests on energy usage reduction, including during machining, were conducted on a sample workpiece simulating a stainless steel valve, and the effectiveness of the cooling system was confirmed by a 68% reduction in energy usage.

OGUCHI, Japan, Nov. 16, 2021 / Kyodo JBN/ --
Okuma Corporation Japan
Okuma Corporation has developed the new MA-8000H Horizontal Machining Center with a pallet size of 800 x 800 mm. Equipped with extensive power-saving functions and eco-friendly technologies that operate autonomously without human intervention, this new product strongly supports user efforts to decarbonize.

(Photo: https://kyodonewsprwire.jp/prwfile/release/M105098/202111113235/_prw_PI1fl_7yyg61Pm.jpg)

Okuma would like to introduce three features of the MA-8000H.

1. Autonomously achieves energy savings without human intervention
Okuma's Proprietary technology Thermo-Friendly Concept allows the machine to autonomously maintain stable accuracy without requiring specific measures against thermal deformation that accompany excessive power consumption, and "ECO suite plus" Next-Generation Energy-Saving System "knows, analyzes and reduces" CO2 emissions of each device.

2. Sharply boosts labor productivity by strengthening automation responsiveness and reliability to support long periods of stable operation
The number of hydraulic and pneumatic supply ports to fixtures that automatically clamp workpieces has increased to 16 ports on the setup station and 7 ports on the workspace area (optional). (Conventional type: 4 ports)
This makes it possible to respond to robotic multiple-task attachment and removal and avoid collision between the tool and the fixture during fixture operations in the workspace area.
Sludgeless Tank (optional) automatically and efficiently retrieves coolant sludge and drastically reduces the frequency of coolant tank cleaning. Sludge retrieval rate from castings is 99%.
No cleaning of coolant tank for three years, no coolant replacement for three years (data gleaned from in-house equipment).

3. Further improves production capacity to process large components with enhanced basic capabilities
While the machining area was expanded by 27% by extending all the travel of X, Y and Z axes by 100 mm, realizing the installation floor space of 95.5%, as compared with the conventional type.

Order acceptance: Orders will be accepted from January 2022.

OGUCHI, Japan, Dec. 2, 2019 / Kyodo JBN/ --
Okuma Corporation Japan
Okuma's Thermo-Friendly Concept Achieves Cumulative Sales of 50,000 Shipments
Okuma Corporation announced on December 2, that its cumulative sales of machines equipped with the Thermo-Friendly Concept (TFC) have reached 50,000 units. Okuma developed the TFC based on the unique idea of “accepting temperature changes,” and in 2001 launched the MB-46V vertical machining center designed with a breakthrough application of the TFC.

Image1: https://kyodonewsprwire.jp/prwfile/release/M105098/201911284088/_prw_PI1fl_0PiOF0Ig.jpg
Image2:
https://kyodonewsprwire.jp/prwfile/release/M105098/201911284088/_prw_PI2fl_5odkKm57.jpg

The MB-46V was highly evaluated for its extremely stable accuracy immediately after its release, and the MB-V Series with the TFC was also developed for the MB-56V and MB-66V. Since then, the number of models designed for the TFC has increased to include horizontal machining centers, lathes, multitasking machines, and large double-column machining centers.

Thermal deformation greatly affects the machining accuracy of machine tools. Normally, in order to obtain stable machining accuracy, various cooling and insulation approaches like machine warm-up operation, temperature-controlled rooms, etc. have been required.

The TFC contributes to improving productivity by reducing machine warm-up operation and dimensional compensation tasks by stabilizing machining accuracy. Dimensional change is minute even with long, continuous die/mold manufacturing, and post-process polishing jobs can also be considerably reduced.

In addition, the TFC package includes Okuma’s ECO suite energy-saving technology, which permits the operation of cooling equipment only when necessary, thus greatly reducing power consumption.

After 18 years since its launch, the TFC continues to evolve with AI and other cutting-edge technologies. Okuma will strive to provide more effective machine tool applications through further research and development, and will continue to pursue “machines that are easier for humans to use.”

About Okuma Corporation
Okuma is a comprehensive machine tool manufacturer which produces not only lathes, machining centers, multitasking machines and grinders, but also control systems and peripheral equipment. Through total consistent “monozukuri” (manufacturing) service, Okuma aspires to contribute to the business of customers throughout the world who create value, and thus bring happiness to all people who journey together with Okuma.
