Consumer expo draws global exhibitors keen on China's vast market

The sixth China International Consumer Products Expo (CICPE) kicked off on Monday in Haikou, capital of south China's Hainan Province, attracting more than 3,400 brands from over 60 countries and regions.

Themed "Opening Up Drives Global Consumption, Innovation Empowers A Better Life," this year's expo runs from April 13 to 18. Meanwhile, the 2026 "Shopping in China" International Consumption Season was launched simultaneously.

The sixth CICPE has expanded in scale, with an exhibition area of 143,000 square meters, up 13,000 square meters from the previous edition. International exhibits account for 65 percent of the total, an increase of 20 percentage points from last year. Meanwhile, over 200 new products are expected to make their debut, double last year's number and spanning fields including healthcare, jewelry and digital technology.

Since its launch in 2021, the CICPE has become an important platform for multinationals to stay abreast of consumer trends in China's gigantic market, with over 3,800 enterprises and more than 12,000 brands from 92 countries and regions participating over the past five editions.

Canada, this year's guest country of honor, has organized its largest-ever delegation, with around 40 companies participating in sectors including cosmetics, agricultural products, health products and pet food.

Bulgaria is among nations setting up national pavilions for the first time, while official delegations from 12 countries and regions, including Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Ireland, are attending the event.

Beyond the main venue in Haikou, a health exhibition area in Hainan's Boao features 120 international pharmaceutical and medical device companies, while a yacht show in Sanya in the province is hosting over 200 yachts, with international brands accounting for 70 percent.

Committed to building an international, professional, and market-oriented multilateral economic and trade cooperation platform, the CICPE has become a "bridgehead" for high-level opening up. It has attracted over 230,000 domestic and overseas buyers in the five expos to date.

This edition, for the first time, has set up a buyer service center on site, providing exhibitors and buyers with full-process, all-round supply-demand matchmaking services. Additionally, an online supply-demand matchmaking platform has been established, leveraging digital technology to enable one-click matching of needs.

The system is designed to move more than 1,000 totes per hour—without the congestion that often limits high-density environments.

But the bigger shift is operational, not just technological.

Workstations are no longer fixed to a single fulfilment model. They can be reconfigured dynamically handling bulk retail shipments one moment, and individual e-commerce orders the next. As demand shifts, so does the operation, without requiring physical reconfiguration.

Behind it all is a deeply data-driven approach. From early-stage simulation to live operations, data has shaped how the system is designed, deployed, and continuously optimised. Inventory placement, order sequencing, and even maintenance cycles are informed by real-time system insights.

Engineering this level of density at height also brings new challenges. Rack design, floor precision, and safety compliance all become critical factors when operating at over 10 metres. The system is built to meet these demands, including automated responses that align with fire safety and evacuation requirements.

Seamless integration with Maersk's warehouse systems ensures real-time coordination across the operation. Notably, much of this integration was validated in a virtual environment before deployment—accelerating implementation and reducing on-site risk.

Midea and Keppel Partner to Collaborate on AI-Enabled Modular Cooling Solutions Opportunities across Asia

SINGAPORE, April 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Midea Building Technologies (MBT), a business unit of Midea Group, together with Keppel Ltd.'s Infrastructure Division (Keppel), has entered into a strategic collaboration agreement to jointly develop AI-enabled, energy-efficient cooling solutions across Asia. The signing was witnessed by Ms Cindy Lim, CEO of Keppel's Infrastructure Division and Mr Peter Guan, Vice President of Midea Group and President of MBT.

The non-exclusive collaboration will combine MBT's capabilities in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning manufacturing and intelligent building systems with Keppel's strengths in Cooling-as-a-Service (CaaS) and digital optimisation, to co-develop standardised, modular cooling systems. Implementation of the modular cooling system in specific projects will be carried out through project agreements separately negotiated by Keppel and MBT on a case-by-case basis.

It is envisaged that the jointly developed modular cooling systems will offer a flexible, capex-light solution that can be deployed and scaled across multiple sectors, which will enhance the energy efficiencies of cooling processes while reducing the complexity of on-site installation.

By adopting a modular, pre-engineered approach, Keppel can pre-fabricate cooling modules and assemble them onsite. The modular cooling systems will be connected to Keppel's state-of-the-art Operations Nerve Centre (ONC). The ONC, in turn, runs on Keppel's proprietary digital platform, Infrastructure Intelligence (II), which leverages AI and machine learning for real-time monitoring and performance advanced analytics, allowing the cooling modules to be managed remotely around the clock.

When combined with MBT's smart equipment, IoT sensors and intelligent building management systems, it is expected that the AI-enabled cooling solution will be able to offer enhanced operational reliability, improved energy efficiency and reduced lifecycle carbon emissions generated from cooling processes.

As part of the collaboration, both companies will establish an AI-first Centre of Excellence, a collaborative platform, to facilitate engineering, standardisation, optimisation and replication across potential projects. Target sectors include data centres, advanced manufacturing and industrial parks, healthcare and education campuses, aviation hubs, integrated developments and retrofit projects.

The DOORwaY90 study met its prespecified co-primary endpoints, demonstrating a 90% complete response (CR) rate and a best overall response rate (ORR) of 99%, as assessed by blinded independent central review. All evaluable patients responded to treatment, resulting in 100% local tumor control—one of the highest reported response outcomes in Y-90 therapy. Sceye's mission underscores progress in long-duration stratospheric operations ahead of pre-commercial telecom flight this Summer

Sceye successfully spent over 88 hours staying over an area of operation, including one full diurnal over New Mexico and three consecutive diurnals off the Brazilian coast before completing a planned and controlled flight termination.

The Endurance Program built on Sceye's 2024 Control Dynamics Program, where Sceye's HAPS became the first to close the power loop in the stratosphere by staying powered through a full day-night cycle while maintaining position over an area of operation. The mission demonstrates the company's significant advances towards commercial deployment, delivering the configuration, operations protocols, and data required to move towards months-long flights.

・Operated for over 12 days, lifting off from New Mexico and completing the mission in international waters off the coast of Brazil.
・Spent over 88 hours across several selected locations during the 6,400-mile flight maintaining position and altitude, achieving a station seeking radius as low as 1 km.
・Closed the power loop, maintaining power, position, and altitude during each day and night cycle. Sceye leverages solar power during daylight, which charges batteries that operate at night.
・Closed the pressure loop, maintaining vehicle pressure during each day and night cycle, validating the design of the company's first fully in-house manufactured hull.
