Softbank Posts Web Video Showing Modern-Day Samurai Demonstrating Quick Sword Drawing, Cutting
SoftBank Mobile Corp. posted on May 14 a promotional video on the Internet featuring Mr. Isao Machii, the world-famous, modern-day samurai, demonstrating his highly sophisticated, Guinness-verified art of quick sword draws and cuts.

The video shows Mr. Machii's superhuman feats, a must-see, cutting in half a variety of objects, including an orange, a fried shrimp, and a gleaming ball, flying toward him at high speed in the darkness.

The video is aimed at focusing on the high speed of SoftBank's 4G LTE network by way of showing "iai" or a branch of swordsmanship developed for instantaneous sword drawing and cutting.

Also in the video, Mr. Machii successfully renewed his own Guinness record for the "Most martial arts sword cuts to one mat (Suegiri)," after an interval of seven years, boosting the number of cuts to a free-standing straw mat roll from seven to eight.

Guinness World Records verified that Mr. Machii on April 23, 2015, broke the record he had held for the "Most martial arts sword cuts to one mat (Suegiri)" by increasing the number of cuts from seven to eight.

Swordsmen compete for the number of cuts to a 90cm-tall, free-standing straw mat roll. It is extremely difficult to cut a straw mat roll standing alone without its ground contact point being fixed or supported by something else. Unless it is cut with the right speed and precision, the mat roll will fall on the ground.

Moreover, as the straw mat roll becomes shorter after multiple cuts, the swordsman will have to swing the sword harder, running the risk of hitting the ground and breaking the sword.

But, if he puts less power in his swing so as not to hit the ground, the swordsman may end up seeing the sword stuck in the mat roll or the roll lying on the ground.

SoftBank Mobile Releases Sensational New X'mas Music Video Starring Super-flexible Girl and Santa Claus CAT
- Uniquely Syncopated Music Combined with Intriguing Video Wins Accolades From All Over Japan -

SoftBank Mobile Corp., on Nov. 28, 2014, released an intriguing and stylish new music video featuring a young girl with an incredibly flexible body, a kitten in a Santa costume, and dozens of the company's new frameless AQUOS Crystal smartphones.

Music video

The video starts off with a young girl resting her chin on her hand. As the camera zooms out, it shows her executing a 180-degree split and the viewer discovers that the AQUOS Crystal smartphone is recording her moves. As the girl lets out a sigh, the ticking of a clock located on the floor in front of her grows louder. Then, with the "pop" of a wine cork, another smartphone appears showing a bottle of wine being opened.

As images of a cabbage being shredded, fingers typing away at a keyboard, champagne glasses clinking together, and a kitten in a Santa costume appear in one smartphone after another, their sounds begin to sound like the Christmas carol "Joy to the World."

The video depicts the main concept behind the smartphone of a frameless body unit that "eliminates the boundaries between real and fiction," as well as a young girl wishing for something "merry" to happen at Christmas.

Performers

Girl: @naaboudoufu / Nana
Nana became very popular among viewers of video clips on Nico Nico Douga. Currently, she is a member of the idol/model duo Nananon and known for her incredibly flexible body.

Kitten: Santa Claus Cat
A kitten dressed up as Santa Claus. She is said to be difficult but also a little coquettish.

Music: Yusuke Uchiyama
Uchiyama established otoco Co., Ltd. in December 2008. He writes music for TV commercials and movies, does sound production for artists, and produces tie-up projects. He works on about 200 pieces of commercial music a year.

Music: Joy to the World! The Lord Is Come
A combination of the music of a popular Christmas carol, "Joy to the World! The Lord Is Come," and the Japanese translation of the lyrics of a hymn, "Hark the Glad Sound! The Saviour Comes," the music used in the video is popular at Christmas time in Japan.
