Located at 540 Madison Avenue in New York City, the new multi-level flagship store is the largest Grand Seiko Boutique globally. With an impressive presence on the corner of Madison Avenue and 55th Street, it promises an unparalleled experience for watch enthusiasts and connoisseurs, celebrating the brand's rich heritage of artistry and innovation.

The flagship features an elegant and contemporary design that reflects Grand Seiko's brand message, "Alive in Time," representing its dynamic spirit and desire to push the boundaries of watchmaking.

At the entrance and throughout the store, designs inspired by a traditional form of Japanese woodwork known as "kumiko" adorn the new construction. In addition to the traditional ribbon cutting, the occasion was marked by a performance by a celebrated Japanese "taiko" drum troupe, "Kodo," whose name is phonetically shared with the award-winning Grand Seiko Kodo Constant-force Tourbillon.

Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi Opens Its Doors
Seiko Watch Corporation opens a new chapter in the 60-year history of the Grand Seiko brand with the inauguration of an entirely new studio dedicated to the production of Grand Seiko’s mechanical watches.

The studio was declared open on July 20, 2020, in a ceremony that took place simultaneously at the Wako building, a retail establishment of Seiko Holdings Corporation, in Tokyo and at the studio in Shizukuishi, Iwate Prefecture, northeastern Japan. In Tokyo, Shinji Hattori, the Chairman and CEO of Seiko Watch Corporation, was joined by the studio’s distinguished architect, Kengo Kuma, while, in Shizukuishi, the Governor of Iwate Prefecture, Takuya Tasso, participated alongside the studio’s directors.

As he announced the opening of the studio, Shinji Hattori said, “The studio provides the ideal environment for our craftsmen and women to bring Grand Seiko’s mechanical watches to life and for the next generation of watchmakers to be trained and their skills developed. It embodies Grand Seiko’s philosophy, The Nature of Time, and is clear evidence to the world of our dedication to the art of mechanical watchmaking.”

Explaining his design for the studio, Kengo Kuma said, “Grand Seiko’s view of the importance of nature is reflected in every corner of its design and construction. I greatly enjoyed the challenge of making the clean room, where watches of the highest precision are assembled, from wood. To balance natural materials with the room’s high-technology technical requirements was a new and intriguing task.”

The studio also incorporates an exhibition space where visitors can immerse themselves in Grand Seiko’s history and explore the manufacturing characteristics of Grand Seiko’s mechanical watches. Events will be held at which visitors can try their hand at assembling a mechanical watch in a dedicated space known as the Studio Seminar Room.

A lounge on the second floor contains an exhibition that explains the world of Grand Seiko and will also showcase the brand’s first “concept creation.”

In addition, a Grand Seiko watch made exclusively for, and at the studio, will be presented and available for purchase. It is a limited-edition Hi-beat 36000.

A small museum on the first floor is in the image of the symbolic Wako clock tower's interior. The tower is a historic symbol of Seiko and a proud landmark of Ginza in which Seiko founder Kintaro Hattori placed its headquarters. The new Seiko Boutique in London is open for business. At an inauguration ceremony on August 10, the President and COO of Seiko Watch Corporation, Shuji Takahashi, invited the world to the boutique and ushered in a new chapter in the history of Seiko in Britain.

グランドセイコーは、1960年の誕生以来、腕時計の原点である正確さと見やすさ、そして美しさを徹底追求し続け、歴史を紡いできました。根底にあるのは、現状に満足することのない深化と進化 ――「超えていく」というセイコーの強い思いです。ブランド誕生の55周年の節目にあたる今年、新たな取り組みとして、世界の第一線で活躍する日本人フォトグラファー、田原桂一、濱田祐史、野村佐紀子の3人が、グランドセイコーの「精緻なものづくり」、「時の持つ物語性」、「ブランドに関わる人々の想い」をそれぞれ独自の視点とセンスで切り取り、アートフォトとして結実させるというプロジェクトに挑みました。3人のアーティストは、工房や、デザインの現場、ブランドを知る人物を訪ね、繊細な部品の働きや針の動きのダイナミズムを可視化するなど、斬新かつ丁寧なアプローチにより、グランドセイコーの新たな魅力を引き出しました。

本展は、今年3月にスイスで開催された国際的な時計宝飾見本市「バーゼルワールド2015」で初めて公開され、7月には、ドイツ・フランクフルトの国際写真展「RAY」への出展など、各地を巡回し、時計業界のみならず、アートフォト・美術関係者からも高い評価を受けてまいりました。T-SITE GARDEN GALLERYでの展示は、東京では初の凱旋展となります。アートフォトという情感豊かな表現を得て、グランドセイコーならではの日本の美意識を世界へと発信いたします。

Seiko Celebrates 50 Years in Russia with Opening of Its First Boutique in Moscow
Seiko Watch Corporation announced on September 7 that its first boutique in Russia opened in the St. Nickolas complex on Nikolskaya Street, a high-end shopping district in Moscow. An opening ceremony took place in the presence of Darya Klishina, one of Russia's leading athletes and Seiko's ambassador since 2012.

At the heart of the 80-sq.-meter boutique are Seiko's luxury brands, Grand Seiko, Credor and Galante. The Grand Seiko selection at the boutique is one of the widest outside of Japan. A large selection of Credor and Galante brands which until now have been sold mainly in Japan is also offered for the first time in Russia. The boutique also carries many exclusive and limited-edition models such as the Credor masterpiece "Eichi II", a hand-crafted watch which has attracted wide praise among connoisseurs of luxury watchmaking, and sells for RUB3,990,000 (including VAT). In addition, Seiko's latest technologies are found in a variety of Astron and Prospex watches.

Takashi Aizawa, Director and Executive Vice President of Seiko Watch Corporation, said at a reception, "This year is Seiko's 50th anniversary in Russia; Seiko was registered as a trademark in Russia in 1965. We are delighted to open this boutique in this important anniversary year. This new boutique is one of several that are opening in the world's leading cities. Seiko Announces Inauguration of First "Seiko Premium Boutique" in Ginza, Tokyo, with Wang Leehom as First Customer
Shinji Hattori, President & CEO of Seiko Watch Corporation, along with Seiko's brand ambassador in Asia Wang Leehom officially announced the inauguration of the world's first "Seiko Premium Boutique" on July 29 in Tokyo.

The boutique is the first shop to carry Seiko's three luxury brands exclusively; Grand Seiko, Credor and Galante, and is situated in the high-end Ginza shopping district. Wang Leehom is a famous Chinese-American singer and actor and has been Seiko's brand ambassador since 2011.

After a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Hattori at the boutique, Wang Leehom stepped into the brand-new store as the first customer and enjoyed Seiko's very special products displayed there, including Credor Spring Drive Minute Repeater which sells at 33,000,000 yen.

He has later attended a press conference which was held at Wako, a famous landmark specialty store owned by Seiko in the heart of Ginza.

"Showcasing our prestigious collections, this boutique will offer a true window to the Seiko world and visitors will experience the uniqueness of Seiko's craftsmanship and Japanese hospitality," Hattori said at the press conference.

"It is my great honor to have a chance to attend this festive occasion in the center of Tokyo. I was deeply impressed with Seiko's masterpieces such as Credor Minute Repeater. They are true culmination of legendary Japanese craftsmanship and cutting-edge technologies," Wang Leehom said.

The press conference was also attended by Seiko's top six master craftsmen, and the masterpieces elaborately hand-crafted by these craftsmen are to be displayed at the boutique. Also there will be special occasions to demonstrate their award-winning skills at the boutique in the future.

Latest Seiko Boutique Opens in Frankfurt
Seiko Watch Corp. announced on July 21 that around 100 guests gathered in the prestigious Bockenheimer Strasse area of Frankfurt on July 17 to celebrate the opening of a new Seiko Boutique. The boutique was inaugurated in fine style; a traditional fanfare of trumpets was followed by the cutting of a ribbon.

2015 marks the 55th anniversary of Grand Seiko, Seiko's luxury brand. A special photographic exhibition about Grand Seiko, first seen at Baselworld in March, was presented in Frankfurt to coincide with the boutique opening. More than 30 photographs from this exhibition were on display as part of the RAY 2015 photography triennial exhibit, of which Seiko is a principal sponsor, on July 17 and 18 at the Thurn und Taxis Palais. In the exhibit, the diverse aspects of Grand Seiko attracted the attention not only of watch lovers, but also of the general public. More of these photographs will be exhibited at the Seiko Frankfurt boutique until the end of July.

The new Seiko Boutique in Frankfurt showcases Grand Seiko, as well as Seiko's prestige collections, Astron and Prospex. In these collections, the visitor will see the uniqueness of Seiko's craftsmanship and industry-leading technologies. The Seiko Boutique will offer a true window into the Seiko world.
