TOKYO, Aug. 23, 2021 /Kyodo JBN/ --
Japan Anti-Doping Agency (JADA)
The Japan Anti-Doping Agency (JADA) will exhibit a “PLAY TRUE Planet: Sport & Art” legacy booth at FAN ARENA of TOKYO WATERFRONT CITY during the Tokyo2020 Paralympic Games. The public engagement booth on “true value of sport” runs from August 24 to September 5, 2021. The booth will be activated by “PLAY TRUE Creators,” including Olympians, Paralympians and university students.

The PLAY TRUE Planet booth showcases ART integrated with every message of the world on “true value of sport” and their “Filter Pose,” which symbolizes the true heart to sport. Those have been collected as part of i-PLAY TRUE Relay and PLAY TRUE Relay since 2014, the beginning of the PLAY TRUE 2020 legacy project. The Art continues growing throughout the Tokyo2020 Paralympic Games; everyone can post his/her message on “true value of sport” -- or true value moment one wishes to see during the Games -- via the PLAY TRUE Planet web platform: https://playtrueplanet.jp/. As soon as one posts a message, the message can instantly be found on the PLAY TRUE Planet LIVE streaming site, meeting other messages and “Filter Pose” photos, transformed into ART.
See - https://playtrue2020-sp4t.jp/playtrueplanet-live.html

The booth is part of PLAY TRUE 2020’s creating the “living legacy” which will be carried on even after the Tokyo2020 Games. The ultimate goal of PLAY TRUE 2020 is to engage many people around the world in order to protect and develop a clean, fair sport environment and develop the young generation to become a leader of sport and society.

Aiming to protect the integrity of sport and create a better society through sport values based on fairness and integrity, “PLAY TRUE 2020, Sport for Tomorrow” -- a Japanese Government-led legacy project for the Tokyo2020 Games, commissioned to JADA -- has initiated to engage people around the world to send values messages and “Filter Pose” photos. Putting anti-doping and clean sport aspects as the main pillar of legacy is the first time ever in the Games legacy project.

Further strengthening safe sport, including anti-doping programmes, is one of the recommendations of Olympic Agenda 2020+5. JADA continues to initiate creating a safe, clean sport environment, and ultimately create a better society through true values of sport.
Japan Anti-Doping Agency (JADA)
“SPORT Meets ART” Integrated People’s Messages on True Value of Sport: Legacy Creation for Tokyo2020 Games by JADA

The Japan Anti-Doping Agency (JADA) exhibits “SPORT meets ART” -- just before the Tokyo2020 Games. This ONE ART has integrated to bloom with everyone’s message on “true value of sport.” Since 2014, JADA has engaged athletes and those who especially care about sport and brought their messages on sporting values together as part of PLAY TRUE Relay and i-PLAY TRUE Relay legacy projects.
See - https://www.playtrue2020-sp4t.jp/iplaytrue/

ONE ART can be found in https://playtrueplanet.jp/playtrueplanet-live.html. The Art continues growing throughout the Tokyo2020 Games; everyone can post his/her message on “true value of sport” -- or true value moment one wishes to see during the Games -- via the PLAY TRUE Planet web platform: https://playtrueplanet.jp/. As soon as one posts a message, that message can instantly be found on the PLAY TRUE Planet LIVE streaming site, meeting other messages and “Filter Pose” photos.

Aiming to protect the integrity of sport and create a better society through sport values based on fairness and integrity, “PLAY TRUE 2020, Sport for Tomorrow” -- a Japanese Government-led legacy project for the Tokyo2020 Games, commissioned to JADA -- has initiated to engage people around the world to send messages and “Filter Pose” photos, which symbolize the true heart to sport.

For this aim, “PLAY TRUE Relay,” a relay started from Dr. MUROFUSHI Koji, Japan Sports Agency Commissioner, Olympian, and former JADA Athlete Committee member, has also been the symbolic project of PLAY TRUE 2020. It has eventually brought 30 athletes of the world together and each has relayed only one “makimono” -- Japanese scroll paper -- inscribed inside it with their “TRUTH” messages: what true lessons the athlete learnt through sport, what the athlete cherishes about sport and how sporting values matter in society. Featuring PLAY TRUE Relay, the “TRUTH in Sport, TRUTH in ME” movie is now available. It aims to encourage young people to realise how sport values contribute to creating a better society by learning the athletes’ messages and sport as enabler for achieving the goals of SDGs.

What JADA has achieved through PLAY TRUE 2020 is to create a “living legacy” which will be carried on even after the Tokyo2020 Games. The ultimate goal of PLAY TRUE 2020 is to engage many people around the world in order to protect and develop a clean, fair sport environment and develop the young generation to become a leader of sport and society.
TOKYO, Dec. 4, 2020/Kyodo JBN/--
Japan Anti-Doping Agency (JADA)
The Japan Sports Agency (JSA) of the Japanese Government and the Japan Anti-Doping Agency (JADA) hosted the annual “International Anti-Doping Seminar in Asia & Oceania” on December 1-3. The 14th annual seminar was organized as “GoVirtual” for the first time due to COVID-19. 2020 is a landmark year for anti-doping organizations (ADOs) as the revised World Anti-Doping Code (2021Code) and International Standards will become effective from January 2021. The seminar in this significant timing has brought together more than 200 people from 52 countries/regions online to exchange information matching the needs of ADOs, and the participants virtually united despite the time difference.

Images: https://kyodonewsprwire.jp/release/202012038062?p=images

The theme of the 2020 seminar was “Are you ready!?--for the 2021Code & International Standards and for beyond.” JADA developed the agenda with WADA based on the input from the anti-doping community in Asia and Oceania in advance.

In his opening address, Mr. Taido Tanose, State Minister of MEXT(*1) and WADA Executive Committee member, expressed how the anti-doping community should be united in this difficult time to reassure the confidence of athletes and public that sport can be played in a clean environment and how the Tokyo 2020 in 2021 can be a doping-free Games. Echoing Mr. Tanose, Mr. Witold Banka (WADA President) stressed: “WADA must go further to build bridges and unite efforts to protect athletes and the integrity of sports globally” and how a clean sport community exists for athletes.

(*1)MEXT: Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology

Throughout the three-day seminar, it was highlighted that anti-doping is in “a new era” with the revised 2021 World Anti-Doping Code and two new International Standards (Education and Results Management) added to six other existing ones. Day 2 of the seminar was dedicated to “Education” reflecting the importance of the new International Standard for Education (ISE).

The seminar continues to put the athlete-centered engagement. At the Athletes Roundtable, Ms Yang Yang (WADA Vice President), Mr. Ben Sandford (WADA Athlete Committee Chair) and Dr. Murofushi Koji, Commissioner of the JSA and former WADA and JADA Athlete Committee member, discussed how the new ISE and “Athlete Anti-Doping Rights Act” can bring the positive impact on protecting clean and fair athletes and developing the sporting values.

There were exchanges of collaborative clean sport initiatives presented by the International Testing Agency (ITA), Badminton World Federation (BWF) and regional members of the anti-doping community. The panel session revealed how a closer partnership and learning good practices can raise the standard of the anti-doping organizations.

Over the three days of the seminar, JADA ensured dialogue and interactions among participants from the anti-doping community, athletes, WADA executives and ITA in an informal format. Given anti-doping activity has been required of some adaptation due to COVID-19, JADA conducted a post-seminar “Japan Day” fun session and shared some examples of online value-based education activities with Asia-Oceania colleagues.

The 2020 International Seminar was successfully closed with “solidarity and unity” remarks by Prof. Hidenori Suzuki, JADA Chair. He reassured the Japanese commitment to the continuous partnership among the anti-doping organizations to raise the standard. Throughout the seminar, the participants were able to gain confidence for the implementation of the 2021 World Anti-Doping Code, and JADA will keep initiating the capacity development to support the clean and fair sport movement across the Asian and Oceanian regions.
Japan Anti-Doping Agency (JADA)
Sport Brings “New Rays of Light” amidst COVID-19, Say Interviewees Relayed through “PLAY TRUE Relay” by JADA

The Japan Anti-Doping Agency (JADA) released a new legacy interview by Yasuhiro Yamashita, Member of the International Olympic Committee, President of the Japanese Olympic Committee, 1984 Olympic Gold medalist, Judo. Yamashita stressed “now is the time when we reaffirm the true power and potential of sport toward the future” given the requirement for continued social distance due to COVID-19.

(Logo: https://kyodonewsprwire.jp/prwfile/release/M105052/202010075402/_prw_PI1fl_D0Ce4c43.jpg)

With COVID-19, Yamashita reflects how sport places in oneself and in society: “We can live positively, with dreams and hopes, when we have ‘light’ in our life. I keenly felt anew how sport can bring that kind of ‘light’ to the world.” He then reminds the fundamental of sport, such as “Yawara no Michi (The Way of Judo),” with respect based on the teaching of KANO Jigoro Shihan unchanged despite changing society and times: “Sport itself has the power. Sport can contribute to the creation of a fair society…Sport also has the potential of connecting people to people, and countries with countries.”

Over 30 athletes with various backgrounds have inscribed their “TRUTH” messages in “makimono” (handscroll) and relayed it as the “PLAY TRUE Relay” legacy project for Tokyo 2020 Games. Their “TRUTH” messages are living voices reaffirming how the inherent value of sport matters for the healthy body and mind. Besides Yamashita, Jessica Fox (Australia’s first Youth Olympic Games Ambassador) and Koji Murofushi, newly appointed Japan Sport Commissioner, have also joined the project.

In addition, “i-PLAY TRUE Relay” is open to all who care about sport. This is a socially engaged campaign that collects people’s messages and “filter pose” photos that symbolize the value of sport cherished in themselves. Everyone’s messages and photos posted either through the project platform (PLAY TRUE Planet) or on social media with #iplaytrue #playtrue2020 will be transformed into an art form.

Japanese Government with JADA Host WADA Executive Committee Meeting in Tokyo to Promote True Value of Sport
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of the Japanese Government (MEXT) and the Japan Anti-Doping Agency (JADA) hosted the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Executive Committee (ExCo) meeting on 23 September in Tokyo.

It was the first time that the Japanese government hosted the ExCo meeting while it represented Asia in the ExCo, to protecting and developing clean and true sport over 20 years since WADA’s foundation in 1999. In an opening address, Mr. HAGIUDA Koichi, the Minister for MEXT appreciated the ExCo members for their considerable commitment to the global anti-doping movement.

The Anti-Doping Promotion Act has been in place in Japan since 2018 to ensure the anti-doping programme, especially intelligence activities compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code, remains effective. Mr. HAGIUDA restressed the importance of a further partnership with WADA and stakeholders to protect clean and fair sport.

About the WADA ExCo meeting:
https://www.wada-ama.org/en/media/news/2019-09/wada-executive-committee-discusses-rusada-code-compliance

WADA and the Japanese government took this opportunity to renew their partnership declaration, which was originally agreed in 2015. It was extended this time to maintain Japan’s commitment to clean sport and to develop anti-doping capacity in Asia.

Developing global anti-doping capacity and ensuring the “clean sport partnership” are part of the main three pillars of the “Sport for Tomorrow” legacy project. The Japanese government and JADA are delivering this legacy project (https://www.sport4tomorrow.jp/).

Following the ExCo meeting, the Japan Sports Agency (JSA) and JADA hosted the “International Anti-Doping Seminar in Asia & Oceania” in partnership with WADA. Fifty people from 31 countries and regions participated in this seminar under the theme of “CREATE LEGACY TOGETHER: For Clean, Fair and True Sport with the 2021 Code.” JSA Commissioner, Dr. SUZUKI Daichi, Mr. Witold Banka, WADA President-elect, Ms. Yang Yang, WADA Vice President-elect, Ms. Danka Bartekova, an IOC Athletes Commission member, and Mr. FUJITA Masaki, Paralympian and member of the JADA Athlete Committee, discussed the importance of athletes’ voices in the decision-making process.

The panelists shared their views on the true value of sport. Commissioner SUZUKI said he sees such value in becoming the “real integrity champion.” He also thanked a wide range of people and organisations for creating legacy together through “i-PLAY TRUE Relay,” a legacy campaign to collect “TRUTH in Sport” messages that are relayed across the world and to the future (https://playtrue2020-sp4t.jp/iplaytrue/).

Working closely with WADA and Anti-Doping organisations as well as partners from both sport and non-sport organisations, JADA continues implementing and activating a variety of values-based education and activities. It is envisaged to contribute to the creation of a clean sport environment in the lead-up to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond.
“PLAY TRUE Torch Relay” is a legacy project in which a wide range of athletes of different countries, sports and generations take part to relay their “TRUTH” messages found in sports and in themselves. The interview series aims to encourage many people to discover the intrinsic values of sports and to realize how the truths found by athletes are related to their values.

Following are the “TRUTH” messages by Akito WATABE and Minato OIKE:
“Aspiring for True Strength with the Resilience and Flexibility of Water”--“The highest excellence is like water and changing the way that one is, smoothly, flexibly--according to any circumstance--and without resistance. I felt that this phrase expressed the ‘TRUTH in ME’.” -- Akito Watabe

“Broadening the Possibilities that Can Be Found beyond Just Having Fun”--“I will become someone that others admire, not just for my BMX freestyle riding but also for my lifestyle and as a person.” -- Minato Oike

As of now, 16 athletes with various backgrounds have relayed their “TRUTH” messages through “PLAY TRUE Torch Relay.” Among the athletes who relayed the Makimono (handscroll-paper) Torch include Koji Murofushi (Olympic gold medalist, hammer throw) and Chelsey Gotell (Para swimming, IPC Athletes’ Council Chairperson) with their “TRUTH” messages.

In conjunction with the interview, “Find my PLAY TRUE,” the quiz challenge page is also re-designed to launch (http://playtrue2020-sp4t.jp/quiz/).

JADA will develop and introduce a variety of programs and activities to contribute to creating a clean sports environment as well as establishing the integrity of sports and society as the hosting country of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
