Tohoku Kizuna Festival Parade Brings Together Six Tohoku Festivals to Captivate Audience: "Tohoku Four Seasons & Tohoku Kizuna Festival" at EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan

The six Tohoku prefectures, Tohoku Tourism Promotion Organization, and Tohoku Kizuna Festival Executive Committee held the "Tohoku Four Seasons & Tohoku Kizuna Festival" at 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Expo from Friday, June 13, to Sunday, June 15, 2025. The festival united the Tohoku region to show its gratitude for the support it received from around the world in the aftermath of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and show the state of recovery. The festivities also communicated information about Tohoku's world-class tourist attractions, such as its nature, culture, cuisine, advanced technology, and people, both domestically and internationally, and to attract more visitors.

At an opening ceremony on Friday, June 13, the governors of the six Tohoku prefectures, other Tohoku officials, the region’s local mascots, and MYAKU-MYAKU, the official mascot for 2025 Osaka, Kansai Expo, took to the stage to greet guests and hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Afterwards, a special event was held showcasing the festivals from the six Tohoku prefectural capitals. The Tohoku Kizuna Festival, featuring the summer festivals from six Tohoku cities, was originally slated for Saturday, June 14, and Sunday, June 15. Due to inclement weather on June 14, the two performances were held indoors. After the weather recovered on June 15, the parade was held twice.

The Tohoku Kizuna Festival is the successor to the Tohoku Rokkon Festival, which was started to pray for the souls affected by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and for recovery. It is usually held in one of the six Tohoku prefectural capitals, but this year it was specially held at the Osaka Kansai Expo. The six Tohoku summer festivals (Aomori Nebuta Festival, Morioka Sansa Odori Festival, Akita Kanto Festival, Sendai Tanabata Festival, Yamagata Hanagasa Festival, and Fukushima Waraji Festival) convened, and the venue also featured displays of large Nebuta and Tanabata decorations. A total of about 550 dancers paraded through the venue, captivating the audience with their magnificent performances.

The "Tohoku Four Seasons," held over three days, featured promotional booths from the six Tohoku prefectures, stage events, hands-on experiences in traditional handmade crafts, and tastings and sales of local foods, all of which helped promote the charms of Tohoku.

東北絆まつりパレードを開催

　東北6県と（一社）東北観光推進機構および東北絆まつり実行委員会は、大阪・関西万博にて、「東北四季の彩り＆東北絆まつり」を2025年6月13日（金）～15日（日）に開催いたしました。東北が一体となり、東日本大震災時の世界中からの支援への感謝と復興の姿を示すとともに、東北が世界に誇る「自然」「文化」「グルメ」「先端技術」「人」などの観光コンテンツを万博開催期間中に国内外に情報発信し、誘客を促進することを目的としております。
　13日(金)のオープニングセレモニーでは、東北6県の知事をはじめとする東北地域関係者と東北のご当地キャラクター、大阪・関西万博公式キャラクター「ミャクミャク」が登壇し、ご挨拶およびテープカットセレモニーを実施。その後、東北の県庁所在地6市のお祭りを披露するスペシャルステージが開催されました。14日(土)、15日(日)には、東北６市の夏祭りが一堂に会する東北絆まつりパレードを2日間にわたり行う予定でしたが、14日(土)は天候不良のためプログラムを変更しステージでの演技披露を2回行い、天候が回復した翌日の15日(日)は、パレードを2回行いました。東北絆まつりは、東日本大震災で被災された方の鎮魂と復興を願って始まった「東北六魂祭」の後継イベントとして、例年東北の県庁所在地6市の持ち回りで開催されてきましたが、今年は特別に大阪・関西万博での開催となりました。東北6市の夏祭り（青森ねぶた祭、盛岡さんさ踊り、秋田竿燈まつり、仙台七夕まつり、山形花笠まつり、福島わらじまつり）が結集し、会場には大型ねぶたや七夕飾りの展示も登場。総勢約550人の踊り手らが会場内を練り歩き、華麗な演舞で観客を魅了しました。
　会期3日間にわたって開催された「東北四季の彩り」では、東北６県のPRブース展示やステージイベント、伝統工芸の実演・手づくり体験、東北の美酒とご当地グルメの試食販売などを行い、東北の魅力を大いに発信いたしました。

『東北四季の彩り＆東北絆まつり』イベントレポート　14日(土)に行われたステージでの演技披露の1回目は、６市長・6祭代表・6商工会議所会頭、6祭りのミスや演者が登壇する出発式を行ったのちにスタート。2回目は、復興大臣、６市長・6祭り関係者などが登壇し、本祭り・観光PRを行ったのち、ステージでの演技披露が行われました。天候によりパレード行進の披露は叶いませんでしたが、それぞれの祭りが息の合った踊りや演奏を披露し、多くの観客が歓声と拍手を送りました。

　15日(日)に行われた東北絆まつりパレードの1回目は、出発式を行ったのちに東北絆まつりパレードがスタート。2回目は、本祭り・観光PRを行ったのち、東北絆まつりパレードが行われました。青森ねぶた祭、盛岡さんさ踊り、秋田竿燈まつり、仙台七夕まつり、山形花笠まつり、福島わらじまつりの総勢約550人の踊り手らが約50分間にわたって会場内の円周コースに沿って演舞をしながら練り歩きました。
　パレードのスタートは秋田竿燈まつりの竿燈の演技で、重さ約50キロ、高さ約12メートルの巨大な竿燈を自由に操るパフォーマンスで会場を盛り上げました。続いて、盛岡さんさ祭りの演技では、「サッコラチョイワヤッセ」の掛け声とともに力強い太鼓と華麗な踊りが繰り広げられ、会場が一体となりました。山形花笠まつりの演技では、花笠太鼓の音色とあでやかな衣装に身を包んだ踊り手の群舞で会場を魅了しました。七夕飾りもパレードに参加し、演技では、すずめのようにはね踊る姿が特徴的な「仙台すずめ踊り」を披露、躍動感あふれる演舞となりました。福島わらじまつりの演技は、長さ約12メートル、重さ約2トン巨大なわらじをかついで、笛太鼓の生演奏に合わせて「わらじおどり」を披露しました。ラストを飾った青森ねぶた祭の演技では、ハネトが踊りを披露し、「ラッセーラー！ラッセーラー！」というかけ声とともに、元気に飛び跳ね賑やかに踊りました。最後に、もう一度秋田竿燈まつりの演技が行われ、円周コースに６つの祭りが並び、会場を賑やかに彩りました。
　最後に、仙台市長、および次回の東北絆まつりの開催地である盛岡市長から挨拶があり、来年の絆まつりや各祭りの本祭声を合わせて「ありがとう！」と伝えると、観客からは大きな拍手が送られ、パレードは幕を閉じました。

　会期3日間にわたって開催された「東北四季の彩り」イベントの「東北トリップゾーン」では、特設トリップシアターにて春夏秋冬さまざまな表情を見せる豊かな東北の四季が目の前に広がり、東北を旅している気分が味わえる動画が上映されました。
　「伝統と革新ゾーン」では、東北の伝統工芸品と最先端技術や研究プロジェクトをジオラマ展示等で紹介。青森県の津軽塗および秋田県の大館曲げわっぱの職人による実演ライブが行われたほか、津軽塗研ぎ出し体験、大館曲げわっぱ製作体験、赤べこ絵付け体験といった無料の手づくりワークショップが実施され、多くの方が東北の伝統工芸の魅力に触れられる機会となりました。

　「東北の美酒とご当地グルメゾーン」では、宮城県の郷土料理＜ずんだ餅＞、山形県民のソウルフード＜玉こんにゃく＞、秋田県の地ビール＜田沢湖ビール＞などの販売が行われ、東北の味巡りを楽しむ姿が多く見られました。

Tohoku Wonder Trip Zone
"Tohoku Wonder Trip Zone" features a special theater that presents colorful images showing the unique charm of Tohoku through the four seasons. Panels will also provide tourist information on Tohoku's scenic spots, cuisine, hot springs, and more.

Tradition and Innovation
Experience demonstrations by artisans of traditional crafts such as "Tsugaru lacquer" and "Odate magewappa" (steam-bent woodcraft). Alongside Tohoku's traditional crafts, cutting-edge technologies and research projects from the region that are gaining global attention will be showcased, highlighting techniques that bridge tradition and innovation for the future.

Stage Attractions
To promote the six Tohoku prefectures, traditional performing arts like "Sansa Dance" and "Hanagasa Dance" will be showcased live, highlighting Tohoku's spirit and cultural charm.

Tourism and Food Exhibition Booths
Local governments, DMOs, and private businesses will set up booths. Additionally, there will be food and drink booths that offer local specialties and regional cuisines for tasting and merchandise, providing an experience that involves all five senses.

Tohoku Kizuna Festival Parade
A Tohoku Kizuna Festival parade will be held on Saturday, June 14, and Sunday, June 15. It will also be livestreamed on the official website: https://tohoku-kizunamatsuri.jp/

The Tohoku Kizuna Festival is a collaborative event of the Tohoku region’s six major festivals, initiated as part of the recovery efforts from the Great East Japan Earthquake. Held in six Tohoku cities each year (Aomori, Akita, Morioka, Yamagata, Sendai, and Fukushima), the festivities have created strong bonds. This year, it will be featured at 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Expo where approximately 550 individuals will perform for visitors. A departure ceremony led by the mayor and executive committee chairperson will precede each parade.

◆東北四季の彩り
催事中を通して下記の体験や展示、イベントを実施いたします。

東北ワンダートリップゾーン：
「東北ワンダートリップ　シアター」では、東北ならではの魅力が目の前に広がる特設シアターで、
春夏秋冬さまざまな表情を見せる色彩ゆたかな映像を体験いただけます。また、東北の景勝地やグルメ・温泉などの観光情報のパネルを掲出します。

伝統と革新ゾーン：
伝統工芸（津軽塗、大館曲げわっぱ）の職人による実演や、伝統工芸ワークショップを体験いただきます。また、東北の伝統工芸品の展示とあわせて、世界から注目される東北の先端技術や研究プロジェクトの展示も行い、未来とつながる伝承と革新の技を紹介します。

ステージアトラクション：
東北6県のPRを兼ねて、代表的な伝統芸能（さんさ踊り、花笠踊りなど）をステージで披露し、東北の精神と文化的魅力をライブで発信します。

観光PR・飲食店出展ブース：
自治体やDMO、民間事業者が出店します。地元の名産品や郷土料理をその場で味わえる飲食ブースも展開され、物販も含めて、五感で楽しむ地域体験を提供します。

◆東北絆まつりパレード
期間中の14日（土）、15日（日）は東北絆まつりパレードを行います。

東北絆まつりは、東日本大震災の復興を機に始まった、東北六大祭りの連携イベントです。6市（青森・秋田・盛岡・山形・仙台・福島）を持ち回りで巡り、絆を育んできたこの祭りが、2025年大阪・関西万博で集結。総勢約550名が来場者に向け演舞を披露します。各回のパレード前には市長や実行委員長等による出発式も実施いたします。

各祭りの紹介（2024年開催時）：
・青森ねぶた祭（青森市）：
七夕祭りの灯籠流しが原型ともいわれる青森ねぶた祭。
22台の大型ねぶたが出陣し、囃子と跳人（ハネト）が混然一体となり、短い夏にその魂を爆発させます。

・秋田竿燈まつり（秋田市）：
真夏の病魔や邪気を払う、ねぶり流し行事として長い歴史を持つ秋田竿燈まつり。
重さ50キロ、高さ12メートルの巨大な竿燈を自由に操る妙技は必見です。

・盛岡さんさ踊り（盛岡市）：
岩手県名の由来ともなった三ツ石神社の鬼退治伝説から始まったとされる盛岡さんさ踊り。
世界記録を持つ「世界一の太鼓大パレード」や飛び入り参加できる輪踊りも楽しめます。

・山形花笠まつり（山形市）：
「ヤッショ、マカショ！」の威勢のいい掛け声と花笠太鼓の勇壮な音色に合わせてあでやかな衣装の踊り手たちが、華麗な群舞を繰り広げます。
紅花をあしらった笠の波がうねる様子が美しい祭りです。

・仙台七夕まつり（仙台市）：
藩祖伊達政宗公の時代から続く日本一の和紙の祭典「仙台七夕まつり」。
和紙で作られた絢爛豪華な笹飾りが青竹に飾られ、街全体を美しく彩ります。

・福島わらじまつり（福島市）：
古来より健脚を願い、地元羽黒神社に大わらじを奉納する「暁まいり」にちなんで開催されている祭り。
日本一と称される長さ12メートル、重さ2トンの大わらじパレードは必見。
