Handheld Groupの最高経営責任者（CEO）のイェルケル・ヘルスローム氏は「Nautiz X1はこれまでで最もタフなスマートフォンで、屋外技術専門家とアウトドア愛好家の双方にぴったりだ。長年真に堅ろうな携帯型コンピューターを生産してきたHandheldにとって、堅ろうさは社風にすり込まれている。これは普通のスマートフォンではない。超堅ろうコンピューターの信頼性と頑丈さを備えたスマートフォンを、われわれは提供する」と述べた。

Nautiz X1はIP67規格に準拠し（http://www.handheldgroup.com/regions/worldwide/what-is-rugged.asp）、ほこりや砂、水の浸入から守られている。また厳しい米軍規格（MIL-STD-810G）に合致し、湿気や振動、落下、極端な低高温にも耐久性がある。

Nautiz X1は恐らく市場で最も軽く、最も薄い堅ろう型スマートフォンとなる。重さはほんの180グラム（6.3オンス）で、大きさは125x65x15ミリ（4.9x2.6x0.6インチ）にすぎない。太陽光の中でも画面が読め、耐久性のある4インチ・ワイドVGA型タッチスクリーンを採用している。

フル装備のNautiz X1は強力な1ギガヘルツのデュアル・コア・プロセッサーと512メガバイトのRAMで稼働し、オンボードストレージは2ギガバイト。信頼できる音声通信のほか、GSMとCDMAネットワークを経由する高速度データ送受信や、802.11b/g/n規格のWiFiネットワークとの接続が可能。BluetoothやGPS、500万画素カメラの機能もある。基本ソフト（OS）は最新のAndoroid 4.0（開発コード名Ice Cream Sandwich）か、Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5。別売のバッテリーを使えば、どんな状況、環境でも24時間連続で使用できる。

Nautiz X1は堅ろう型PDA（携帯情報端末）やスマートフォン、携帯型コンピューターなどすべてのHandheldの製品（http://www.handheldgroup.com/regions/eu/product-overview.asp）と同じく、測量や物流、林業、公共運輸、公益、建設、保守、鉱業、軍事、セキュリティーなどの屋外作業員のために特別に開発された。
