- Bonobo (Chile) Gets Three Awards, Including Award for Outstanding Performer -

The Tokyo Festival World Competition 2019 was held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre from October 29 till November 4 during the Tokyo Festival 2019, and the Award for Outstanding Show and other awards were given at an award ceremony on November 4.

At the competition, six theater pieces were judged by a seven-person jury, including Jury Chairperson Juliette Binoche (French actress). Each of the six theater pieces was chosen by six recommenders such as festival directors and theater producers from the five regions of Asia, Oceania, Europe, Africa and America as well as from Japan. Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike participated in the award ceremony and congratulated the award recipients.

The awards are as follows:

Award for Outstanding Show: “Big Nothing” by Dai Chenlian (China)

Award for Outstanding Performer: Bonobo (Chile), “Tu Amaras (You Shall Love)”

Award for Outstanding Talent: Bob Scott (sound design for “The Howling Girls” by Sydney Chamber Opera (Australia))

Critics’ Choice Award: “Tu Amaras (You Shall Love)” by Bonobo (Chile)

Audience Award: “Tu Amaras (You Shall Love)” by Bonobo (Chile)

The Tokyo Festival started in 2016, and this year is the fourth time that the festival is held. The General Director of the festival is Satoshi Miyagi. The competition was held for the first time this year.
