Tokyo Metropolitan University Releases Application Guidelines for Fall 2026 Entrance in Biological Sciences Pursuing “World-Class Science in Tokyo" through a fully English-taught degree program —

Tokyo, December 25, 2025 – Tokyo Metropolitan University (TMU) has officially announced the release of the application guidelines for the 2026 Fall Entrance Examination for the Department of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science.

In an effort to foster a global learning environment where students from around the world can learn together, TMU introduced a Fall Entrance system in the Department of Biological Sciences in the 2024 academic year. This innovative program allows students to complete their degree entirely in English.

Since its inception, the program has attracted highly motivated students from diverse backgrounds. Currently, the first and second cohorts are studying together at the Minami-Osawa Campus, transcending nationalities and fostering a truly global learning environment. This academic community, where students connect through the common language of “Life Sciences,” is now accepting applications for the third cohort of students to bring fresh perspectives into this vibrant academic community.

Eligible Applicants

International students, returnees (e.g., Japanese students living abroad), and students of international schools (both domestic and overseas). Distinctive Research Facilities

Makino Herbarium: Houses approximately 500,000 plant specimens, including those collected by Dr. Tomitaro Makino, known as the "Father of Japanese Botany" (and the model for the protagonist of the NHK morning TV drama "Ranman").

Ogasawara Research Facilities: A research base for the Ogasawara Islands, a remote archipelago located about 1,000 km south of Tokyo that boasts a globally important natural environment.
