◎技術通の教師がアジア中で授業を革新

【ケンブリッジ（英国）2013年9月25日PRN=共同JBN】Cambridge International Examinationsの新たな調査によれば、技術に詳しく自信もある教師のおかげで今日の学生は教室でその恩恵をこうむっているという。2013年世界教師デーを記念して世界の500人以上の教師を対象に行われた調査によれば、アジアの学校の大多数はIT戦略をすでに起草しており、教室でも多様な革新的ソリューションを利用している。

アジアの多くの教師が授業を一変する新技術を使用し始めており、3分の1の教師は授業でスマートフォンやタブレットを使い、同数の教師はアプリやソーシャルネットワークを教育目的に使っている。今まで使われてきたテレビ、ラジオ、CDプレーヤーなどの技術の人気がなくなる一方、教師の80%以上が授業を補完するためにラップトップ・パソコンを使っている。

学生の4分の3以上が勉強でラップトップを使う一方、多くの学校も技術を提供して、学生の機器利用の問題に対処している。学校でも「Bring Your Own Device（BOYD、個人所有の機器を職場に持ち込む）」が増えており、学生が個人所有の機器を教室で利用するために持ち込むことを許可していることを75%以上の先生が認めている。

将来に関してこの調査が明らかにしたところではアジアの教員の圧倒的多数が技術は国境や時間帯を飛び越える力を持つと考えている。質問に答えた教師の85%が世界中の教室が技術によって結ばれ、情報やベストプラクティスを共有することを希望する一方、3分の2以上の教師がオンラインによってそれぞれの分野の最も優れた才能ある人たちと対話式の授業ができることを希望している。さらに、回答者3人のうち1人は10年以内に学生はバーチャルな教室環境で学ぶようになり、現在の教室は陳腐化してしまうだろうと感じている。

Cambridgeではこの分野で教師や学生をサポートするためにオンライン学習環境を提供している。学習者のコミュニケーション能力を開発する学際的な教科「Cambridge IGCSE Global Perspectives」を採用している学校は今や新たなオンライン学習環境にアクセスできるようになり、世界中の教室と同じ教育経験を学生に提供できるようになった。これによって学校間で提携し、オンライン上のコミュニティーを作ることが容易になり、世界規模で革新性、卓越性を育てることができるようになる。

Cambridge International Examinationsの最高経営責任者（CEO）マイケル・オサリバン氏は「技術の世界は驚異的な早さで変化している。教員職の貢献を祝う世界教師デーに当たって、私としては世界中の教師がこれらの変化に前向きに対処しているという調査結果に喜んでいる。このことは学生が技術を効果的に使うために必要な能力を身につける必要性を世界の教師が理解している証しだ。これらの能力は教室で終わるものではない。これらは生活のための能力で若い人が現代の世の中で必要なものだ」と述べた。

Today's students are reaping the benefits of technology in the classroom,

thanks to confident and tech-savvy teachers, according to new research from

Cambridge International Examinations. A survey of over 500 teachers across the

world to celebrate World Teachers' Day 2013 reveals that the majority of

schools in Asia have written an IT strategy and are using a range of innovative

solutions in the classroom.

Many teachers in Asia are starting to employ the newest technology to transform

their lessons, with over a third of teachers using the latest smartphones and

tablets in the classes, and the same number using apps or social networks in

the classroom for educational purposes. While more traditional technology such

as TV, radio and CD players are falling out of favour, over 80 per cent of

teachers now use laptops in the classroom to support their teaching. Over

three-quarters of students have access to laptops in their lessons, while many

schools are addressing the access issue by enabling students to use their own

technology. BOYD "Bring Your Own Device" is also on the rise in schools, with

over 75 per cent of teachers confirming their students are allowed to bring

their own devices for use in the classroom.

Looking to the future, the survey reveals that an overwhelming majority of

teachers in Asia believe in the ability of technology to cross borders and time

zones. 85% of teachers asked would like to see technology used to link

classrooms around the world to share information and best practice, while over

two-thirds would like to see interactive lessons delivered online by the

brightest minds in their field.  In addition, one in three respondents felt

that in 10 years' time, students would be learning in virtual classrooms,

making the physical classroom all but obsolete.

At Cambridge we are supporting our teachers and students in this area through a

new online learning space for schools. Schools offering Cambridge IGCSE Global

Perspectives, an interdisciplinary subject that develops learners'

communication skills, can now access a new online learning space, giving their

students an education experience that reaches into classrooms worldwide. It

makes it easier for schools to work with each other and build online

communities, fostering innovation and excellence in education on a global scale.

Michael O'Sullivan, Chief Executive, Cambridge International Examinations, said:
