Park Hotel Tokyo to add 9 Artist Rooms per year over 3 year period

Looks forward to serving art-loving guests from around the world with ''Omotenashi" traditional Japanese hospitality

The Park Hotel Tokyo (1-7-1 Higashi-Shimbashi, Minato-ku, Tokyo) plans to add nine Artist Rooms per year over the next three years to create an entire Artist Floor, totaling 31 rooms, as part of its "Artist in Hotel" project, an adaptation of the well known "Artist-In-Residence" program in a hotel setting.

In the project, the hotel has turned guest rooms into Artist Rooms encapsulating their creators' passions and views of the world, with Japanese artists painting on walls and decorating the rooms with their original paintings or art objects based on the inspiration they obtained while staying at the hotel.

Artist Room Concept

As of October 2013, the highly popular Artist Room Sumo and Artist Room Zen are available for reservation. In November, the renowned paper sculptor, Naoki Takenouchi, is producing a room under the theme of Japanese Paper Garden, and Japanese sumi ink artist, Kiyoko Abe, will begin her work under the theme of Dragon in December.

With this project the hotel endeavors to reach out to foreign guests who are interested in Japanese aesthetics and arts in order to help enhance their cultural experiences during their stay in Japan. It offers visitors an unforgettable opportunity to enjoy art from the comfort of their hotel room.

Park Hotel's unique "Omotenashi" hospitality through art

The Park Hotel Tokyo has been providing staff selected from various departments of the hotel with study and training programs related to art and design. Under this unique program, they learn about art in study groups led by artists who have participated in the hotel art exhibitions and also by visiting art museums and art events.

Furthermore, in 2015, the hotel is planning to create an exclusive lounge on the Artist Floor where a specialist art concierge service will be available to advise guests on current art exhibitions and events. Guests staying in the Artist Rooms and visitors for the hotel art events and exhibitions will be invited to frequent the private lounge.

Proposed schedule for Artist Rooms

- From mid-November 2013 Japanese paper sculptor Naoki Takenouchi (Theme: Japanese Paper Garden)

- From mid-December 2013 Japanese sumi ink artist Kiyoko Abe (Theme: Dragon)

- 2014 Additional nine Artist Rooms

- 2015 Additional nine Artist Rooms, creation of exclusive lounge, art concierge service inception
