【ロンドン2014年2月20日PRN=共同JBN】「Internet of Things（IoT、モノのインターネット）」に対する新しい業界団体International M2M Council（IMC）は先月（1月）、新たに500余りの新メンバーを獲得し、このセクターにおける業界リーダーシップのニーズが高まっていることを示した。新たなIMCメンバーの一部は、世界でM2M（マシン・ツー・マシン）テクノロジーを展開するフェデックス（FedEx）、現代（Hyundai）、サウジアラムコ（Saudi Aramco）、シーメンスヘルスケア（Siemens Healthcare）、タタグループ（Tata Group）、米国防総省など大企業の個人が含まれている。

IMCのキース・クライシャー事務局長は「これまでは世界的レベルでリーダーシップ欠如があったことは明らかである。IoTビジネスモデルを展開したい企業は、経費はどれほどとか、リスクはどのようなものかなどの情報に飢えている。われわれグループの使命達成は容易ではないが、Internet of Thingsのビジネスケースを示すという簡単なことである」と語った。

IMCはこの目的のため、新しいIoTコンテンツライブラリーを展開する。それはバルセロナで開かれるMobile World Congress開催中にM2M展開に対するROI（投資利益率）を強調して50例余りの研究結果が含まれる。同グループは既に、M2Mテクノロジーに対する重要なマーケットであるエネルギー、ヘルスケア、ロジスティックス産業に有用な週刊ニュースレターを発行している。先月になってようやく広範なメンバー勧誘努力が始まり、資格を認められたアダプターメンバーは、無料でIMCライブラリーを利用できるが、むしろメンバーのデモグラフィック情報を提供することが許される。IMCは量的研究、ベストプラクティスなどの確立のためにこの情報を利用する。

ドイツテレコムのM2M Competence CenterバイスプレジデントでIMC会長のユルゲン・ハーゼ氏は「われわれは全産業に不可欠の絶対的戦略として、世界規模の業界グループの確立を目指している。IMCはメンバーが得られる具体的な恩恵を持って、M2Mの展開で主要な役割を果たしたい」と語った。ドイツテレコムに加えて、IMC理事会を構成するほかの企業は、AT&T、ディジインターナショナル（Digi International）、Iridium、Kore Telematics、オラクル（Oracle）、Orbcomm、テレコムイタリア（Telecom Italia）、Telit、Wylessなど。

クライシャー事務局長は「それはウイン・ウインの関係である、アダプターメンバーは重要な情報を取得し、支援メンバー企業はこれらアダプターに特別に接触ができる。われわれはグループ外のアクセスについて共有しない」と語った。

Trade Association for the Internet of Things Gains Hundreds of Members in Just One Month

    The International M2M Council - a new trade group for the Internet of

Things, also called machine-to-machine communications - has gained over 500 new

members in the last month, illustrating the need for industry leadership in the

sector. The new IMC members include individuals from some of the largest

enterprises deploying M2M technology in the world, such as FedEx, Hyundai,

Saudi Aramco, Siemens Healthcare, Tata Group, and the US Department of Defense.

    "It's clear that there has been a leadership vacuum on a global level.

Companies looking to deploy IoT business models are hungry for information -

how much will it cost and what are the risks?" says IMC Executive Director

Keith Kreisher, "Our group's mission isn't easy, but it is simple - to prove

the business case for the Internet of Things."

    To this end, the IMC will roll out its new IoT Content Library, which

includes over 50 case studies emphasizing ROI for M2M deployments, during the

Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The group already publishes weekly

newsletters serving the energy, healthcare, and logistics industries - crucial

markets for M2M technology. Broad recruitment efforts began only in the last

month, where "adopter members" that qualify can access the IMC's library at no

cost, but rather, opt-in to provide demographic information. The IMC will use

this information for quantitative research, establishment of best practices,

and more.

    "We see the establishment of a global trade group for the M2M as an

absolute strategic imperative for the entire industry," says Juergen Hase, VP

of the M2M Competence Center at Deutsche Telekom and the IMC's Chairman, "We

expect the IMC to play a key role in the development of M2M, with concrete

benefits that will accrue to its members." In addition to Deutsche Telekom,

other companies that form the IMC's Board of Governors include AT&T, Digi

International, Iridium, Kore Telematics, Oracle, Orbcomm, Telecom Italia,

Telit, and Wyless.

    "It's a win/win. Adopter members get crucial information, and sustaining

member-companies gain special access to those adopters. We don't share access

outside of the group," says Kreisher.
