International Workshop on Multiphase Flows: Analysis, Modelling and Numerics
November 10, 2020
From December 1 to 4, 2020, Waseda University will hold the “International Workshop on Multiphase Flows: Analysis, Modelling and Numerics.”
This workshop has been organized annually by the Multiscale Analysis, Modelling and Simulation Model Unit at Waseda, which is funded by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s Top Global University Project. This year, the session “Oxford-Waseda in Mathematics” will be held as part of the online workshop to commemorate the university-wide agreement signed between the University of Oxford and Waseda and exchange ideas on how the two universities can collaborate in education and research on a larger scale.
We look forward to your participation!

Message from the organizer
I have organized international conferences/workshops on mathematical fluid mechanics since 2009 at Waseda University every year.
One of the main subjects is to study the Navier-stokes equations, which is an established equation describing the fluid motion. The history of the mathematical study of the Navier-Stokes equations may have been started by Oseen and Leray in the early 20th century. Now, one of the challenging problems in mathematical fluid dynamics is to show if the uniqueness of the Leray-Hopf weak solution holds.
On the other hand, the study of the existence of unique solutions was started later and has continued to expand with the development of several analysis tools. My purpose is to contribute to this development of the mathematical study of fluid dynamics based on the recent developments of the analysis tools, especially maximal regularity and stability estimation as well as related stationary problems and periodic solutions. To achieve this purpose, I have organized the mathematical fluid dynamics conference for a new development of studies and discussions. I have invited so many excellent speakers for the scientific talks and lectures for short courses from not only within Japan but also overseas, such as the U.S., the U.K., Germany, Poland, Russia, Czech Republic, France, Italy, China and so on. Moreover, this conference is an opportunity for young researchers, including doctoral students, to communicate with excellent senior researchers and deliver their talks motivated by their studies.
In this context, I will hold this international workshop concerning mathematical fluid dynamics this year as well.
