Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd., the largest department store group in Japan, said Dec. 22 it will hold a New Year Festival under the theme, "New Year for Enjoying the Future," on January 2-6 in all areas of its three core stores in Tokyo. The New Year, the biggest seasonal event in Japan, is an opportune time to rediscover Japanese culture.

The three stores -- Isetan Shinjuku Main Store, Mitsukoshi Nihombashi Main Store and Mitsukoshi Ginza Store -- will feature numerous programs befitting this time of year that will be enjoyable not only for people living in Japan but also foreign tourists. They include sales of lucky bags filled with items that could open the door to good luck and fulfilling dreams, sales of lucky charms and items related to the yearly zodiac sign, and events characteristic of the New Year. Customers will be able to experience Japan's New Year at the Isetan Mitsukoshi stores in a merry and celebratory fashion.

President and CEO Hiroshi Ohnishi said, "We certainly hope you will spend the New Year at an Isetan Mitsukoshi store. Each of the stores has prepared products and events with unique ideas that will enable you to rediscover Japan's culture."

Aiming to become the "world's best fashion museum," Isetan Shinjuku Main Store will hold events highlighting "Rose of Versailles" featured design, Nicola Formichetti's JAPAN GALAXY 2015, New Year Festival of Nicolai Bergmann & Kyoto traditional arts.

Mitsukoshi Nihombashi Main Store, aiming to become a "culture resort department store," will recommend the joys of introducing culture and arts to people's lifestyle such as breaking of a sake barrel, Japanese traditional music and performances, celebratory drink, items related to the yearly zodiac sign and lucky charms.

Mitsukoshi Ginza Store, the global department store where many foreign tourists visit, will present collaboration programs with the Kabukiza Theatre in Tokyo's Ginza district, ozoni and amazake tasting, celebratory items with image of Mt. Fuji and the yearly zodiac sign.
