TerraWell Achieves Fire-Resistant Certification for Safer, Greener Buildings
Innovative Building Material Combines Fire Safety and Sustainability
Kano Corporation (Head Office: Tajimi, Representative Director: Yoshiki Kano) is proud to announce that our sustainable building material "TerraWell" has officially been certified as a fire-resistant material by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism. The certification number is NM-5880, and the certificate was issued on December 25, 2024. This recognition ensures that TerraWell complies with Japan's Building Standards Act and is safe for use in a wide range of applications, including public and commercial facilities.
Background of the Certification
Unlike many fire-resistant materials that rely on adapted standards, TerraWell has undergone rigorous testing as an individual product to obtain this certification. This achievement highlights its reliability and suitability for architects and builders seeking trustworthy solutions. Additionally, TerraWell’s unique "non-fired manufacturing process" not only reduces CO₂ emissions during production but also actively absorbs carbon dioxide from the air and solidifies it, contributing significantly to the reduction of its carbon footprint.
Future Prospects
With this fire-resistant certification, TerraWell is now eligible for use in an expanded range of building applications. In particular, it is expected to gain traction in public facilities, commercial buildings, and residential complexes where fire-resistant materials are mandatory. Furthermore, TerraWell’s contribution to carbon neutrality makes it an attractive option for environmentally conscious projects aligned with the goals of sustainability and the SDGs.
Features of TerraWell
TerraWell combines fire-resistant performance with additional functions such as humidity regulation and air purification. Moreover, its flexible material composition allows for upcycling not only of TerraWell’s own waste materials but also of other waste materials, promoting waste reduction and the efficient use of resources. Through its ability to absorb and solidify carbon dioxide, TerraWell provides an innovative solution that supports the creation of a sustainable society.
