国連教育科学文化機関（ユネスコ）とセロニアス・モンク・ジャズ協会（Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz）は世界中で4月30日に開催された空前のイベントにおいて協力し、ジャズをたたえるとともにジャズが表現の自由と異文化間の対話の手段であることを認めた。

世界190カ国以上で開催された2015年国際ジャズデーは、パリのユネスコ本部で開催されたオールスター・グローバル・コンサートで最高潮に達した。コンサートには、アニー・レノックス、ハービー・ハンコック、マーカス・ミラー、ディー・ディー・ブリッジウォーター、ウェイン・ショーター、ダイアン・リーヴス、アル・ジャロウ、フェミ・クティ、ヒュー・マセケラ、グレゴア・マレ、クラウディオ・ロディッティ、テリ・リン・キャリントン、リー・リトナー、ベン・ウィリアムス、ジョン・ビーズリー（音楽ディレクター）ら多数が出演した。コンサートは、潘基文国連事務総長が祝辞を寄せ、ユネスコ創設70周年記念式典最大の見どころとなった。

コンサートの閉幕にあたり、ハービー・ハンコックとヘザー・ハイギンボトム米国務副長官は「来年4月30日に開催される第5回国際ジャズデーに参加を。光栄なことに、バラク・オバマ米大統領とファーストレディーのミシェル・オバマさんがワシントンのホワイトハウスから来年の国際ジャズデーのオールスター・グローバル・コンサートを主宰する」と発表した。

毎年4月30日に開催される国際ジャズデーは、ユネスコ親善大使ハービー・ハンコックの主導によって、ジャズにハイライトをあて、世界中の人々を結び付ける外交的な役割を強化するためにユネスコ加盟国によって承認された。国際ジャズデーはユネスコおよび国連の公式日程として認知されている。

第4回国際ジャズデーの開催にあたり、ユネスコのイリナ・ボコバ事務局長は「変化と不確実性が増す時代に、人々を団結させ、自由と対話をはぐくみ、より大きな寛容と協力に向けて尊敬と理解の新しい架け橋を築くために、われわれはこれまでになくジャズの精神を必要としている」と語った。

2015年国際ジャズデーは今年のグローバル・コンサート開催都市パリで幕を開け、ジャズ教育とコミュニティーへの働きかけを行う55の日中プログラムに続き、30のイブニングコンサートが開かれた。パリで開催されたイベントに加え、数千のイベントが7大陸すべてで開かれた。南極大陸、コートジボアール、ルーマニアからアフガニスタン、コロンビア、ニュージーランドまで、ジャズに焦点を合わせた膨大なプログラムがクラブ、レストラン、ホテル、コミュニティーセンター、学校、図書館、芸能会場などで開催された。世界の登録イベントの全リストはウェブサイトwww.jazzday.com で入手できる。

グローバル・コンサートに続き、アーティストのためにコンサート後のレセプションがルイ・ヴィトン財団によって開催され、ハービー・ハンコックが特別のソロパフォーマンスでゲストをたたえた。

Artists From Across the Globe Grace the Stage in Paris for 4th Annual International Jazz Day

In an unprecedented series of events worldwide on April 30th, the United

Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the

Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz joined together to celebrate and recognize

jazz as a vehicle for freedom of expression and dialogue between cultures.

With events taking place in more than 190 countries around the world,

International Jazz Day 2015 culminated with an All-Star Global Concert at

UNESCO Headquarters in Paris that featured stellar performances by Annie

Lennox, Herbie Hancock, Marcus Miller, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Wayne Shorter,

Dianne Reeves, Al Jarreau, Femi Kuti, Hugh Masekela, Gregoire Maret, Claudio

Roditi, Terri Lyne Carrington, Lee Ritenour, Ben Williams, John Beasley

(Musical Director), and many others. The concert, which featured remarks from

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, was a major highlight of UNESCO's

70th anniversary celebration.

As the concert came to an end, Herbie Hancock and United States Deputy

Secretary Of State Heather Higginbottom, shared with the world, "Please join us

next April 30th for the 5th annual International Jazz Day. We're honored to

announce that President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will host

next year's International Jazz Day All-Star Global Concert from the White House

in Washington, DC."

Held every year on April 30th, International Jazz Day was adopted by UNESCO

Member States on the initiative of UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock,

in order to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all

corners of the globe. International Jazz Day is recognized on the official

calendars of UNESCO and the United Nations.

In recognition of the 4th annual International Jazz Day, UNESCO

Director-General Irina Bokova stated, "In times of change and uncertainty, we

need the spirit of jazz more than ever before, to bring people together, to

nurture freedom and dialogue, and to create new bridges of respect and

understanding for greater tolerance and cooperation."

International Jazz Day 2015 kicked off in Paris, this year's Global Host City,

with a daylong series of 55 jazz education and community outreach programs

followed by 30 evening concerts. In addition to the events taking place in

Paris, thousands of events were held worldwide on all seven continents. From

Antarctica, Cote d'Ivoire and Romania to Afghanistan, Colombia and New Zealand,

a staggering array of jazz-focused programs took place in clubs, restaurants,

hotels, community centers, schools, libraries, performing arts venues and more.

Following the global concert, a post concert reception for the artists was

hosted by the Fondation Louis Vuitton where Herbie Hancock honored the guests

with a special solo performance.
