Mandom Holds "GATSBY Dance Competition 5th" for Students from 8 Asian Countries/Regions; Solo Contestant from Singapore, Sir Waackalot, Wins Grand Prize, First for His Country

Mandom Corp. chose the winners of the grand prize, "The Greatest GATSBY Award," and other awards after a final round of "GATSBY Dance Competition 5th," a promotional event for the firm's chief brand GATSBY, held in Tokyo's Shibuya on March 2.

Outline of "GATSBY Dance Competition 5th"

"GATSBY Dance Competition" has been held since 2008 to give Asian students opportunities to realize their dreams and wishes, and at the same time to promote exchanges through dance. This year's event was the fifth in the series.

Preliminaries for this year's event began in June 2012, inviting students from eight countries/regions (Hong Kong, Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Japan) to enter the first round of competition in their own countries/ regions. A total of 1,168 individuals and groups participated in the competition, making this one of the largest dance competitions in Asia. Eight individuals/groups selected in their national preliminaries competed in the final contest, "ASIA GRAND FINAL." They were judged by GATSBY's unique criteria: not only for their dance techniques but also for their hairstyle and fashion. With overwhelming votes, Sir Waackalot, representing Singapore, was chosen for the grand prize, "The Greatest GATSBY Award," by judges who included professional dancers as well as foreign students studying in Japan.

The winners are as follows:

- The Greatest GATSBY Award (Prizes: Invitation to Asian dance exchange tour, cash prize of 500,000 yen, souvenir and Mandom products)

Sir Waackalot (Singapore): 23 years old; School: Jitterbugs Swingapore; junior

Evaluation: Demonstrated an overwhelming performance and expression. He charmed spectators with a dynamic dance, using his long arms and legs, and high physical ability. With magnificent jazz-based movements, he used the stage from one end to the other to take home the first victory for Singapore.
