"8th GATSBY Student CM Contest" Winners Chosen; Thai Student Team Wins First Grand Prix, Its CM to Be Aired on Japanese TV

Mandom Corporation has announced winners in the "8th GATSBY Student CM Contest," an international student competition in producing the best video commercials featuring the company's GATSBY line of products. A final round of screening of contestants and a prize-awarding ceremony were held in the Harajuku Quest Hall, Tokyo, on November 23 (Saturday).

Mandom invited students in seven countries and regions -- Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand and Malaysia -- to produce and submit video commercial messages featuring the GATSBY products. A total of 1,015 CMs were sent before September 9 (Monday), the closing date for entries. Subsequently, 22 CMs cleared the first round of screening and popular voting through GATSBY's website. On November 23, individuals and team members who created the 22 CMs gathered in Tokyo to present their own works before a panel of judges. Based on this final competition, the winners of the Grand Prix and other awards were given prizes.

Judges' comment: The idea to show through camera work how one's vision blurs when glasses slip in one way or another on one's face is superb. This work faithfully follows the basic rule of CMs, so to speak; that is, depicting a tragedy resulting from not using the product, which in this case is oil-blotting paper.

Judges' comment: The simple but well thought-out idea based on the product and the power of expression as a commercial are superb. Viewers find intriguing the development of the story, in which the meaning of its title, "Burning Desire," comes through powerfully at the very end of the CM.
