VIA Telecomとの提携によって、世界中のモバイル・ネットワーク上でのボイスおよびデータサービスをサポートするシステムオンチップ設計が可能となる。

メディアテック（MediaTek）は7日、VIA Telecomと提携し、メディアテックの実証済みCDMA2000技術を近日公表予定のWorldmode（商標）モバイル・プラットフォームに組み込むと発表した。

今回の提携はメディアテックの戦略の一環であり、主力モバイル機器向けに高度に集積された機能豊富なSOC（システムオンチップ）設計によって世界市場の要望に応えていく。メディアテックSOCには、総合無線モデム、接続性、マルチメディア機能がすでに含まれている。VIA Telecomとの提携によって、次世代メディアテックSOCは、CDMA2000、LTE（TDDとFDD）、DC-HSPA+、UMTS、TD-SCDMA、GSM/EDGEネットワーク上でのWorldmode（商標）のボイスおよびデータサービスのグローバルローミングのサポートを実現する。

メディアテックWorldmode（商標）SOCは、米国および中国でCDMA2000とLTEの両モード間の相互運用性をサポートし、送受信サービスエリアに従って両ネットワーク間のシームレスなスイッチングをハンドオーバーする。同社のSOCはソフトウエア・アップグレードが可能で、モバイル・ネットワーク・オペレーターがVoLTE（Voice over LTE）技術を展開すれば、VoLTEもサポートできる。

メディアテックはVIA Telecomベースバンド・プロセッサーをメディアテックの既存モバイル・レファレンス設計として既に使用しており、CDMA2000技術を新規のSOC設計に組み込むことによって、今後はモバイル機器の製造コストと電力消費が大幅に軽減される。メディアテックWorldmode（商標）のサンプルは2014年第4四半期には入手可能で、最初の市場向け機器の発売は2015年前半になる予定。

MediaTek Corporate Marketing, USAの副社長兼ゼネラルマネジャーであるモヒト・ブシャン氏は「CDMA2000を加えることによって、メディアテックは無線モデムおよびRF技術のポートフォリオを完成する。これは、メディアテックがモバイル・ソリューションの世界的なサプライヤーになるための前進にとって重要なマイルストーンである」と語った。

VIA Telecomのカー・チャン最高経営責任者（CEO）は「VIA Telecomはメディアテックと協力して、Worldmode（商標）モバイルSOCを2014年末までに市場導入できることを喜んでいる。メディアテックとの提携はVIA TelecomのCDMA2000技術が評価された明確な証しである」と語った。

Collaboration with VIA Telecom enables a System-on-a-Chip design that supports

voice and data services across mobile networks globally

MediaTek today announced a collaboration with VIA Telecom to integrate its

proven CDMA2000 technology into the upcoming Worldmode(TM) mobile platforms.

The collaboration is part of MediaTek's strategy to address global markets with

its highly-integrated, feature-rich SOC (system-on-a-chip) designs for

mainstream mobile devices. The existing MediaTek SOCs include comprehensive

wireless modem, connectivity and multimedia capabilities. The collaboration

with VIA Telecom enables the next-generation MediaTek SOCs to include support

for Worldmode(TM) global roaming of voice and data services across CDMA2000,

LTE (TDD and FDD), DC-HSPA+, UMTS, TD-SCDMA and GSM/EDGE networks.

MediaTek Worldmode(TM) SOCs will support interoperability between CDMA2000 and

LTE modes for the US and China regions, with handover for seamless switching

across both networks, depending on coverage. The SOCs will also be software

upgradeable to support VoLTE (Voice over LTE) once mobile network operators

begin to roll out the technology.

MediaTek already uses VIA Telecom baseband processors as a discrete part in its

existing mobile reference designs, and now, incorporating CDMA2000 technology

into new SOC designs will significantly reduce manufacturing costs and power

consumption for mobile devices. Samples of MediaTek Worldmode(TM) SOCs will be

available in 4Q 2014 and the first commercial devices are expected in the first

half of 2015.
