On May 27, Waseda University will host a special lecture, "Education for the Empowerment of Youth", by Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.  

H.E. Sheik Hasina received an honorary Doctor of Laws from the University in 1997, in recognition of her accomplishments on behalf of the people of Bangladesh and her contributions to harmony between people and nations of the world.  On the occasion of her third official visit to Japan as Prime Minister, the relationship will continue with her special lecture for Waseda's students and faculty.

H.E. Sheikh Hasina

Daughter of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the spiritual father and first President of Bangladesh. Lost her father, mother, three brothers and other family members in a coupd'tat, she was forced to live in exile for the next ten years. Returning to Bangladesh in 1981, she led a vigorous anti-government campaign. Enduring repeated arrests and confinement, in 1990 her movement forced out the military regime. Campaigning for social justice through elimination of poverty, in 1996 she became Prime Minister. Returning to office in 2009, she is now serving her third term.
