Doverが新素材盛り込んだ古典グラフィック小説のシリーズを発刊

Doverは1941年以来、文学、美術、科学などの重要な作品を手ごろで高品質のペーパーバック復刻版として保存してきた。同社はいま、その専門分野を美術作品シリーズに転換して、絶版のコミックブック、グラフィック小説を復刻する。長い間手に入らなかったこれら不朽の作品は、初版リリース時に主流から見過ごされることが多かったものの、熱狂的なカルトファンを獲得してきた。

これらの本は、スパイダーマン、バットマン、スーパーマン、アイアンマン、グリーンアロー、キャプテン・アメリカ、サンドマン、ティーンエイジ・ミュータント・ニンジャ・タートルズなどの人気キャラの制作に関わったコミック業界、アーティスト、ライターから高く評価された作家が創作した。また、ストーリーの多くは「原作者所有」で一般コミックブックの「職務による著作」ではないため、それぞれが極めて個人的なプロジェクトであり、情熱を傾けて書き描いたものになっている。新刊本はおまけとして、マックス・ブルックス、ラリー・ハマ、スコット・ハンナ、ブランドン・グラハム、デイブ・シムら文筆・コミックのスーパースターによる新たなカバー、解説など独占オリジナル素材で肉付けされている。しかも、多くのタイトルの全集、マルチ出版は初めてとなる。

＊Mercy: Shake the World（2015年6月）－J・M・デマティス作、ポール・ジョンソン画－アメージング・スパイダーマン、キャプテン・アメリカ、ジャスティグ・リーグ（Justice League of America）で知られるアイズナー賞受賞作家のショッキングな傑作。作者の前書き、アート・ヤングの後書きは新規、「How It Was Made（メイキング）」素材も付く。

＊Blackjack: Second Bite of the Cobra（2015年7月）－アレックス・シモンズ作、ジョー・ベネット画－バットマン（Batman: Orpheus Rising）の作者による力強い復讐（ふくしゅう）物語。初めて1巻に所収。ジョー・イリッジの前書き、デービッド・コリーの後書き、スコット・ハンナのカバーは新規。

＊The Puma Blues（2015年9月）－スティーブン・マーフィー作、マイケル・ズーリ画－マーフィーとズーリによる未公開作品。デイブ・シムの前書き、スティーブン・R・ビセッテの後書き、「Intelligent and urgent mythology」の著者ニール・ゲイマンの前書きはいずれも新規。

noteworthy graphic novels with the release of Sam Glanzman's A Sailor's Story.

the sciences, and much more, in affordable, high-quality paperback reprints.

Now, the publishing house turns its expertise to the sequential art medium,

rescuing out-of-print comic book runs and graphic novels. Long unavailable,

these timeless works were often overlooked by the mainstream when originally

released but have since developed serious cult followings.

The books were created by some of the most acclaimed names in the comic

industry, artists and writers who have worked on such popular characters as

Spider-Man, Batman, Superman, Iron Man, Green Arrow, Captain America, Sandman,
