【蘇州（中国）2015年4月29日PRN=共同通信JBN】2015年卓球世界選手権は4月26日から5月3日まで中国の蘇州で開催中である。8日間の競技では134カ国・地域から500人を超える選手が中国で最大かつ最も多機能な現代的施設の1つである蘇州国際博覧センター（Suzhou International Expo Center）にて5種目の優勝を争うが、その中には世界で最有力の張継科、許シン、馬竜、ドイツのティモ・ボル選手らが名を連ねている。

中国国家体育局の蔡振華副局長は会場施設の多機能性について次のようにコメントした。「過去の世界選手権会場とは違って、蘇州国際博覧センターは伝統的な体育館ではなく、むしろ多目的複合施設と言うべきだろう。世界卓球選手権大会のみならずオリンピック大会の会場としても最高の施設の１つだ」と述べた。

国際的なイベントとして、世界卓球選手権は会場についての要求条件が非常に高く、その中には広大な競技用空間、多種多様な要求に応じる能力、さらには幾つものイベントが同時に実施できるよう空間を細分化する会場の区画分割などの要求が含まれている。

競技専用のコートに加えて、スペースとして必要なのは国際卓球連盟執行委員会の会合や記者会見用の会議室、さらにはレストランを含むレセプションルームや大会組織委員会の事務用エリア、審判員の会議室、メディアサービス用のスペースなどである。蘇州国際博覧センターは支柱が無くて奥行きの深い、高さ100メートルを超える超高空間を擁しており、世界卓球選手権の機能的空間設定の要求に対して、個々の要求に合わせて同じ場所、すなわちワンストップで対応できる質の高い会場を提供しているのである。

蘇州国際博覧センター最大の長所は蘇州という都市の洗練された文化を体現している性格に存する。紀元前514年に創建された蘇州は2500年を超える長い歴史を有し、中国で最初に指定された24の国家歴史文化都市の一つである。呉文化の中心地として、この都市はその人文的伝統に代表される強大な歴史遺産を有している。古典的で繊細な庭園の数々と語り物と物語詩（バラード）朗詠から成る蘇州古典芸能の「評弾」は内外の訪問者を惹きつけ、楽しませている。

The 2015 World Table Tennis Championship Gets Underway at the Suzhou International Expo Center

The 2015 World Table Tennis Championship is being held in Suzhou, China, from

April 26 to May 3, 2015.

During the 8-day event, over 500 players from 134 countries and territories,

including heavyweights such as Zhang Jike, Xu Xin, Ma Long, and Timo Boll, will

compete for five championships at the Suzhou International Expo Center, one of

the largest and most versatile modern venues in China.

Commenting on the versatility of the venue, Cai Zhenhua, Deputy Director of the

General Administration of Sport of China, said; "Unlike the venues for previous

championships, the Suzhou International Expo Center is not a traditional

gymnasium but rather a multipurpose complex. It is among the world's best

venues for the World Table Tennis Championship and even for the Olympic Games."

As an international event, the World Table Tennis Championship has demanding

requirements for its venue, including the need for a vast amount of space, the

ability to handle a wide variety of requirements and the sectioning off of the

venue into separate smaller spaces so that several events can take place at

once.

In addition to dedicated courts available for matches, the space needs to

include conference rooms for the meetings of the Executive Committee of the

International Table Tennis Federation and for press conferences, as well as a

wide array of functional areas, including the dining area, the office area for

the Organizing Committee, referees' meeting rooms, and the media service area.

With its column-free, long-span, over 100-meter ultra-high space, the Suzhou

International Expo Center offers a one-stop high-quality venue tailor-made to

the requirements of the World Table Tennis Championship for function zoning.
