日本の41大学が世界トップ800校にランクイン

＊タイムズ・ハイアー・エデュケーション（Times Higher Education、THE）が拡大版「世界大学ランキング」2015－16を発行

タイムズ・ハイアー・エデュケーション（THE）はこのほど第12回世界大学ランキング（http://www.thewur.com ）を公表した。日本からは41大学が新たに拡大された世界大学ランキングのトップ800リストにランクインしたが、そのうち、29校は今年ランクインした。

アジア全体では、シンガポール大学が1位（世界26位）の座を占め、中国を代表する北京大学および清華大学の2校が世界のトップ50エリート校の中の地歩を固め、それぞれ42位、47位タイにランクされた。日本は東京大学（43位）、京都大学（88位タイ）の2校がトップ200校入りしたが、一方韓国はソウル国立大学（85位）、浦項工科大学校（116位）、韓国科学技術院（KAIST、148位）、成均館大学校（153位）の4校がトップ200校にランクインした。香港からトップ200入りした3校は香港大学（44位タイ）、香港科技大学（59位）、香港中文大学（138位タイ）。インドは17校がトップ800にランクインしたが、そのうち以下の2校がトップ400入りしている。インド工科大学ボンベイ校（251位から300位のグループ）、インド工科大学ボンベイ校（351位から400位のグループ）。

世界大学ランキングは70カ国の大学を取り上げているが、そのうち29カ国は今年新たに加わっている。今年加わった国にはインドネシア、マレーシア、ガーナ、ナイジェリア、バングラデシュ、ラトビア、オマーン、カタール、ウクライナなどである。

タイムズ・ハイアー・エデュケーション（THE）世界大学ランキングのエディター、フィル・ベイティ氏は「今年、12年目を迎えたタイムズ・ハイアー・エデュケーション（THE）世界大学ランキングはグローバルな大学にとって重要なミッションである教育、研究、知識移転、国際的視野のすべてをカバーした厳しいベンチマークを使い、厳しい基準を課している。その結果は学生や家族、学識者、大学指導者、政府などから信頼されている。トップ800にリストアップされた大学は世界の高等教育機関のわずか4%を代表しており、したがって、今年リストアップされた大学は祝福に値する」と述べた。

フィル・ベイティ氏はさらに「今年、ランキングは拡大されたが、このことは世界の高等教育機関の競争が激しくなったことを示している。トップ800大学は70もの国々に分散しており、かつての米国の優位性は失われつつある」と述べた。

Japan Takes 41 Places Among World's Top 800 Universities

Times Higher Education Publishes Expanded World University Rankings 2015-16

The Times Higher Education has published the 12th edition of its World

University Rankings (http://www.thewur.com). In Japan, 41 institutions have

been included in the newly expanded World University Rankings top 800 list, 29

of which have entered the rankings this year.

In Asia, the National University of Singapore holds Asia's number one spot (in

26th place) while China's two leading universities (Peking and Tsinghua) are

firmly established in the world's elite top 50 group at 42nd and joint 47th

respectively. Japan has two institutions in the top 200, University of Tokyo

(43rd) and Kyoto University (joint 88th), while South Korea has four

institutions in the top 200: Seoul National University (85th), Pohang

University of Science and Technology (116th), the Korea Advanced Institute of

Science and Technology (148th) and Sungkyunkwan University (153rd). Hong Kong

has three institutions in the top 200: the University of Hong Kong (joint

44th), the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (59th) and the

Chinese University of Hong Kong (joint 138th). India has 17 institutions in the

top 800 list, with two in the top 400 list, which are the Indian Institute of

Science in the 251300 group and the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay

(351400).

The World University Rankings feature universities in 70 countries, with 29 new

countries included this year. Countries entering this year include Indonesia,

Malaysia, Ghana, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Latvia, Oman, Qatar and the Ukraine.
