＊米国人フォトグラファーがザンジバル女性の勇気を報道して受賞

26日の夕刻、6年目を迎える最高の平和の映像に関する国際写真コンテストの受賞者がオーストリア議会の部屋で発表された。1911年ノーベル平和賞を受賞したオーストリア人のアルフレート・ヘルマン・フリート（Alfred Hermann Fried）氏にちなみ、1万ユーロが授与される主要賞のPeace Image of the Year 2018（2018年平和の映像・最優秀賞）はカリフォルニア生まれのフォトジャーナリスト、アンナ・ボイアジス（Anna Boyiazis）氏が受賞した。この受賞の対象になった写真シリーズは同氏のPanjeプロジェクトのGirls on the island of Zanzibar（ザンジバル島の少女）で、そこはイスラム統治が優勢なタンザニアの一部で、写真は女性が遊泳するのを禁止することを無視する権利を主張している。ボイアジス氏の写真報道について審査員は、小さなストーリーでとても大きなこと、自由への渇望と女性の自己主張を示していると称賛した。

賞金1000ユーロのBest Single Picture（単独写真最優秀賞）の特別賞はカナダ人フォトジャーナリストで作家、動物の権利保護の活動家ジョアン・マッカーサー（Jo-Anne McArthur）氏がカメルーンで親を失ったゴリラ救助の写真で受賞した。

マケドニア・スコピエの14歳のカヤ・タセフスカ（Kaya Tasevska）さんは平穏と安全の中での休息とされる映像でBest Children Peace Image of the Year（子どもの平和の映像・最優秀賞）を受賞、賞金1000ユーロも授与された。

Alfred Fried Photography Award 2018（2018年アルフレート・フリート写真賞）には137カ国の写真家から1万6610件の応募があった。World Press Photoマネジングディレクターのラース・ボーイング氏と同賞創設者のロイス・ランメルフーバー氏が率いる国際審査員はさらに、セルマ・ファン・デア・ビジル（Selma van der Bijl）氏、マルヤム・フィルツィ（Maryam Firuzi）氏、ノラ・ロレック（Nora Lorek）氏、コンスタンツァ・ポルトノイ（Constanza Portnoy）氏の写真家4人にメダルを授与、表彰した。

Anna Boyiazis to Receive the Alfred Fried Photography Award 2018 for the Peace Image of the Year

    The US photographer wins with a reportage on the courage of women in

Zanzibar

    This evening, in the rooms of the Austrian Parliament, the winners were

presented of the international photo competition for the best image of peace,

now in its sixth year. The main award, Peace Image of the Year 2018, named

after the 1911 Nobel Peace Laureate, Austrian Alfred Hermann Fried, and worth

10 000 euros, went to California-born photojournalist Anna Boyiazis for her

photo series about the Panje project: Girls on the island of Zanzibar, which is

part of Tanzania and dominated by Islamic rules, claim the right to disregard

the ban on women swimming. The jury commended Boyiazis' photo report for

showing, in a small story, something very big: the desire for freedom and the

self-assertion of women.

    The special award for the Best Single Picture, worth 1 000 euros, went to

Canadian photojournalist, author and animal rights activist Jo-Anne McArthur

for a photograph of the rescue of an orphaned gorilla in Cameroon.  

    With an image of peace, understood as a state of rest in comfort and safety,

14-year-old Kaya Tasevska from Skopje, Macedonia, won the Best Children Peace

Image of the Year, also worth 1 000 euros.

    The Alfred Fried Photography Award 2018 received 16 610 entries by

photographers from 137 countries. The international jury, led by Lars Boering,

managing director of World Press Photo and the founder of the award, Lois

Lammerhuber, awarded medals to four more photographers: Selma van der Bijl,

Maryam Firuzi, Nora Lorek and Constanza Portnoy.
