ナレッジサミット2018（Knowledge Summit 2018）：「若者とナレッジ経済の未来（Youth and the Future of the Knowledge Economy）」が12月5－6日、ドバイ世界貿易センターで開催され、ムハンマド・ビン・ラシド・マクトム・ナレッジ賞の受賞者が特別セッションに参加した。

受賞者はMagdi Yacoub Heart Foundation、Institute of International Education（国際教育研究所、IIE）、Saudi Digital Library（SDL）、Amersi Foundationである。
Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundationの創設者、マグディ・ヤコブ卿は「知的自由の奨励は科学を飛躍させる鍵である。われわれは風変わりなアイデアをサポートする必要がある。エジプト地域の人々に遺伝する心臓病の研究に注目している。われわれは地域住民のゲノムを研究しなければならないが、現在、エジプトのゲノムが1000点ある」と語った。
一方、SDL館長のサウド・サライ博士は「図書館はサウジの全大学にデジタルサービスを提供するために設立された。600万人のユーザーへのサービス提供、「ビジョン2030」の達成を目指して、300以上の出版社と提携している。サウジの学生はかつて、研究のために時に海外に行く必要があった。しかし現在、彼らは自分のスマートデバイスで直ちに研究することができる。サウジアラビアは大学研究に関してアラブ世界の3位から1位に上がった」と語った。

Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundationはエジプトの慈善NGOで、心臓血管の手術、治療、研究に専心する世界トップ級医療センターをエジプトに開設する資金を集めた。IIEは世界18カ所にオフィスを設置する国際的な非営利団体で、奨学制度の推進と文化理解の促進を図っている。一方、SDLには68万冊以上のデジタル書籍、174の学術論文データベースがあり、アラブ世界最大のデジタルリソース・コレクションを保有している。Amersi Foundationは教育と青年エンパワーメントの大義と慈善をサポートしている。
ナレッジサミット2018は100人を超える世界の専門家、意思決定者を集め、45本以上のパネル討議を開き、若者、ナレッジ経済、ナレッジ消費者からナレッジ製造者への社会転換の各テーマを追求した。

Winners of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Award participated
in a special session at the Knowledge Summit 2018: "Youth & the Future of the
Knowledge Economy", held at the Dubai World Trade Centre on December 5-6.

The winners were the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation, the Institute of
International Education (IIE), the Saudi Digital Library (SDL), and the Amersi
Foundation.
"Encouraging intellectual freedom is key to making a leap in science. We
must support crazy ideas," said Sir Magdi Yacoub, Founder of the Magdi Yacoub
Heart Foundation. "We look at research into inherited heart diseases by people
in Egypt and the region. We must study the genome of the region's population
and we now have 1,000 genomes from Egypt."
Meanwhile, Dr Saud Al Salahi, SDL Director General, said: "The Library was
launched to provide digital services for all Saudi universities. We have
partnered with over 300 publishers to serve 6 million users and reach Vision
2030. In the past, Saudi students sometimes needed to go abroad for research,
now they can do it instantly from their smart devices, and Saudi Arabia went
from third in the Arab world in terms of university research to first."
Maxmillian Angerholzer III, Executive Vice-President of IIE, noted: "Our
mission is to promote the exchange of knowledge, bringing international
scholars and students to the US and taking Americans abroad. We believe
