As friendly neighbors, China, Japan and South Korea share weal and woe with

longstanding friendship. The escalation of the COVID-19 epidemic in Japan and

South Korea concerns people in Guangzhou, China. On Feb 28th, the Information

Office of People's Government of Guangzhou Municipality sent letters to Japanese

and South Korean friends respectively, showing Guangzhou is ready to cooperate

with them to fight against the epidemic and tide over difficulties together.

In the letter to Japanese friends, it mentioned that after the epidemic struck,

the Japanese government and people provided valuable support and assistance to

China, people in Guangzhou will remember and hold dear such friendship.

On the packages of supplies for epidemic prevention and control donated to China,

read the words "Though miles apart, we are under the same sky". These heartwarming

words have been noticed by many Chinese netizens. Guangzhou responded with the saying

"As close neighbors separated only by a strip of water, China and Japan have longstanding

friendship". Based on the profound friendship forged by both sides over the past 2000 years,

residents in Guangzhou completely relate to what Japan is going through. Guangzhou is willing

to help as much as possible, and will spare no effort to safeguard the health and safety of

foreigners here.

During the epidemic, the South Korean Embassy hang out a banner saying that

"China's difficulties are our difficulties". And the words "Stay Strong Wuhan,

Stay Strong China" were shown on the landmark buildings in Seoul, sending the

message that Korea and China fight against the virus hand in hand.

As the epidemic keeps spreading, in the letter to Korean friends, Guangzhou

quoted an old Korean saying that "The earth becomes more solid once it dries

after a heavy rain", showing that China and Korea are supportive partners to

each other in this fight. At the end of the letter, an invitation was sent to

South Korean friends: when the epidemic ends, welcome to China, to Guangzhou.

Welcome to see the Pearl River, Canton Tower, and taste Cantonese cuisine.
