Company attends event ‘Designing beyond Mobility’

Italdesign, a company based in Moncalieri (Turin) with over 50 years of history, “looks at the future with a sense of pride and an optimism full of energy, both in the automotive sector and in the most multifaceted dimensions of architectural and industrial planning”, its Head of Design Joachin Garcia said at a recent key event in Tokyo.

Founded in 1968, Italdesign attended the event in the Japanese capital called “Designing beyond Mobility”, organized by the Japan Industrial Design Association (JIDA). “We are extremely proud of our history”, Garcia told. “We regard it as heritage. Right now, however, we consider ourselves a company going through a strong evolution – a multidisciplinary working group focusing on the future”.

In February this year, Italdesign opened a new branch in Shanghai to “better understand” the fast changes affecting society and the ongoing innovation process in the Asian continent. “There is no doubt that being present in Japan represents a precious opportunity to experience and witness directly” such changes within a country that is “among the most advanced worldwide in the concept of design”, Garcia explained.

The most iconic designs made by Italdesign include the project “Asso Di Picche in Movimento (Ace of Spades in Motion): the commemoration of a ‘very significant’ car, protagonist of the original model conceived in 1973 by the famous designer Giorgetto Giugiaro – the company’s founder together with Aldo Mantovani, until his exit in 2015. “Half a century later, the design of a car model continues to be the formal interpretation of the concept of movement”.

Along with its partnerships with top car manufacturers, the Turin-based group operates in the sector of sustainable urban mobility and urban planning. The CLIMB-E project, which was presented at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023 in Las Vegas, succeeds in uniting these criteria, continued Garcia: “We have created what we call vertical mobility, imagining the interaction between vehicles of the future and civil constructions and residential buildings”.
