World famous artist to contribute actively to pavilion programme

World famous Japanese conductor Tomomi Nishimoto has agreed to be an 'Ambassador' of the Italy Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka and she will make an active contribution to its programme of musical events.

Nishimoto joins fashion designer Junko Koshino, entrepreneur Yuzo Yagi, industrial designer Ken Okuyama, furniture and product designer Toshiyuki Kita and sculptor Susumu Shingu as 'ambassadors' to the Italy Pavilion.

An internationally respected artist, Tomomi Nishimoto has performed in around 30 countries.

She is the director of the IlluminArt Philharmonic Orchestra, a project that brings together musicians from various areas of the ASEAN bloc.

Active in the promotion of artistic dialogue between East and West, she has created projects that blend traditional culture, science, art and technology in order to raise public awareness about physical and mental health problems and improve people's quality of life, by making music therapy accessible to all.

She has been a regular guest at the Vatican's International Festival of Sacred Music and Art since 2013.

She received the Honorary Award of the Fondazione Pro Musica e Arte Sacra in 2014, becoming the youngest artists to receive this prize.

"We have known Director Tomomi Nishimoto very well since the inauguration of the Paper Concert Hall designed by the architect Shigeru Ban that was donated to L'Aquila by Japan," commented Ambassador Mario Vattani, the Commissioner General for Italy at Expo 2025 Osaka.

"Collaborating with Nishimoto will make it possible to interpret, in an articulated way, the theme 'Art Regenerates Life' of the Italy Pavilion, which for the first time ever will also host the Holy See's Pavilion.

"Creating activities and programmes on the themes of Expo 2025 Osaka for the promotion of the excellence of Italian universities and research centres, both in the artistic and scientific fields, at the international level is one of the objectives of the Framework Agreement signed in July 2023 by the General Commissioner for Italy at Expo 2025 Osaka and CRUI – COPER – AFAM of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research".
