  OSAKA, Sept. 26, 2025/ANSA=Kyodo JBN/ --

The Italy Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka has hosted the signature of an important Memorandum of understanding on hydrogen between the Japan hydrogen association (Jh2a), with European representative Eiji Ohira, and the Italian hydrogen association (H2it), represented by its Vice President Luigi Crema.

The memorandum was signed as part of the event ‘Nuclear fusion, hydrogen and digitalization for energy transition: exemplary cases of cooperation between Italy and Japan”.

“We welcome with pleasure this important agreement which comes during Expo’s thematic week dedicated to energy”, stated the Commissioner General for Italy at Expo 2025 Osaka, Mario Vattani.

He added that this is “the umpteenth example of the value of the Italian mission at Expo 2025 Osaka - the Italy Pavilion, thanks to this memorandum and to the many other accords signed and announced within it, has confirmed its role as a fundamental outpost of the diplomacy of growth”.

The aim of the protocol of agreement between Jh2a and H2it is to establish a relationship of cooperation between the associations to create a practical platform to exchange information, promote collaboration and the development of industrial initiatives in the hydrogen sector.

The platform will be useful to favour commercial synergies and promote joint projects between Japan and Italy, participants said.

The process “started over a year ago” and “also saw the participation of many of our members in joint initiatives”, explained the vice president of H2it.

Crema recalled how these two production chains are dealing with “the energy transition with common challenges in two countries with very similar characteristics from this standpoint”, given for example their “high energy imports” and the “elevated cost of energy”.

“These countries need to find new solutions”, he noted

And for this reason, the agreement includes requirements such as “creating a hydrogen supply chain with a great national but joint production capacity, united with imports of an energy carrier with low and competitive costs, especially to boost the national industrial sector”, said the vice president of H2it.

In detail, Crema said the protocol of agreement provides for the creation of joint working groups, the participation in events, “leading our members, our partners, industries from the two countries to talk and debate, and especially to exchange business opportunities allowing both our industries to maintain competitiveness and excellence in order to transfer our products onto global markets”.
