The week dedicated to Piedmont has opened at the Italy Pavilion of Expo 2025 Osaka with a big crowd taking part in the inauguration.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony in Piazza Italia was attended by the Deputy Governor of the Piedmont Region Elena Chiorino, Industrial Development Councillor Andrea Tronzano, the Commissioner General for Italy at Expo 2025 Osaka Mario Vattani, the Minister for Disabilities Alessandra Locatelli, the President of Piedmont’s agency Centro Estero per l’Internazionalizzazione (Foreign Centre for Internationalization), and the Director of Unioncamere Piemonte Paolo Bertolino.

Piedmont Governor Alberto Cirio is set to join the delegation on September 30.

The region is officially opening its week at Expo 2025 Osaka under the slogan ‘The Art of Nurturing the Future’ with an in-depth display of local culture, creativity and innovation.

Piedmont is showcasing its role as a territory that is able to transform its heritage into a driving force of development, including by promoting international aerospace programs and hypercars as well as the natural beauty of its mountains, lakes and the vineyards of the Langhe area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Piedmont’s presence at the Italy Pavilion captures visitors already from the outside with a personalized façade and a LED wall display guiding the public through an exhibition area including six thematic niches dedicated to cinema, chocolate, textile, aerospace, the automotive sector and design.

The journey within the exhibition culminates in installations of land art amid Piedmont’s hills and virtual tours across the region’s most symbolic museums: the Egyptian Museum, the Royal Residences of the House of Savoy, the Museum of Natural Sciences and the National Museum of Cinema.

After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the inauguration day continued with the meeting ‘Ancient looms, new visions’ focusing on Piedmont’s textile sector in connection with Japan’s tradition, in a dialogue between the worlds of academia and business.

Over the subsequent days, a rich program will include panel discussions and networking initiatives – from a congress on ‘Piedmont shares its story at Expo Osaka: a Heritage of Humanity’, to a debate on ‘Investing in Piedmont’, which will register the participation of Japanese companies already operating in the region, to events on health and competitiveness.

Local culture and food will also take centre stage.

Highlights will include a performance by violinist Mauro Iurato, a Piedmont native who lives in Japan and performed on inauguration day, as well as tastings of iconic regional specialties such as agnolotti with meat sauce and veal with tuna sauce which are part of the regional menu at Eataly.

“It is a particularly thrilling moment”, stressed the region’s Deputy Governor Elena Chiorino.

“As a region, we bring all our excellence”, added Chiorino, “from food and wine, to jewellery, automotive and the innovations of aerospace and advanced mechanics”.

Recalling that the Italy Pavilion is “the most sought-after” at Expo with “over five-hour-long queues”, Chiorino noted that the universal exhibition is a “great occasion which we intend to fully grasp”.

Councillor Andrea Tronzano also highlighted the “great satisfaction” and “honour” for Piedmont to be present at the Italy Pavilion.

“The richness of our know-how is on full display here”, he added, recalling key themes set to draw the attention of the Japanese and international public, from the “extractive to the space” sectors, in which “our region surprises for the ability to produce excellence recognized worldwide”.

Piedmont, concluded the councillor, “is a territory that offers quality, tradition, innovation and an extraordinary landscape, where those who invest find an ideal place in which to live”.

With its presence at Expo 2025 Osaka, Piedmont has confirmed its role as a workshop for the future that is able to express deep roots and an international calling."
