A new step has been taken to strengthen relations between Italy and Japan in the sector of life sciences.

During the week dedicated to the Piedmont Region at the Italy Pavilion of Expo 2025 Osaka, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Osaka Bio Headquarters, bioPmed Cluster and the Bioindustry Park Silvano Fumero Spa Benefit, with the objective of helping Italian and Japanese small and medium-sized companies access their respective life science markets and stimulate technological and scientific exchanges.

The signature took place at the end of the round table 'Shaping Health and Regional Competitiveness in Piedmont through Innovation Ecosystems and International Collaboration', dedicated to the role of ecosystems of innovation - from scientific parks to technological clusters and research centres - as strategic promoters of the competitiveness of territories.

Piedmont has given a central role to health as a factor of well-being as well as an engine of economic growth, investment and attraction of capitals.

"Today we signed an important agreement with the Biopark of Silvano Fumero of Turin together with the Osaka Bio Headquarters", said Antonio Salvi, president of the Bioindustry Park Silvano Fumero Spa Benefit.

The agreement is part of "other accords which the Bioindustry Park already signed a while ago, for the development of collaborations in the sector of Life Sciences and Medical Sciences, in order to reciprocally attract important industrial and research realities to develop this important sector for both the Italian and Japanese economies", added Salvi.

Enthusiasm was also expressed by the Japanese side.

"I am very happy to have participated in the signature of this memorandum organized by the Piedmont Region, bioPmed Cluster and the Osaka Bio Headquarters, stated Hiroyuki Akatsuka, associate director of Life Sciences of the prefectorial government of Osaka.

"We have already collaborated, but this joint memorandum marks a new possibility of cooperation between our agencies, and this makes me particularly proud", added Akatsuka.

He thanked "Italy, the Piedmont Region, the City of Osaka, BioPmed and Osaka Bio Headquarters for this opportunity of connection allowing to deepen their bond".

Life sciences will also star in Tokyo: from October 1 until October 3, Piedmont will participate for the first time in Medical Japan, the main Asian fair dedicated to medical care.

It will be a strategic occasion for the six companies in the collective of the 'Health and Well-being' integrated project, which is coordinated by Ceipiemonte, to explore new opportunities offered by the Japanese market.
