After the opening of the Japan Hub in Tokyo, Turin's Polytechnic University is once again a protagonist in Japan.

On Thursday, during the week dedicated to Piedmont at the Italy Pavilion of Expo 2025 Osaka, the multimedia exhibit 'Volare: dove i sogni incontrano la tecnologia/ Flying: Where Dreams Meet Technology' was inaugurated as part of the project 'Airone - Aerei e droni per la mobilità civile sostenibile' (Heron - Airplanes and drones for sustainable civilian mobility), selected by the University and Research Ministry.

The show takes visitors on a journey through prototypes, videos and narrations focusing on the new frontiers of aerospace: from urban drones to high-altitude aircraft, satellites and all their applications.

The initiative was presented by the Dean of Turin's Polytechnic Stefano Corgnati, together with the Commissioner General for Italy at Expo 2025 Osaka Mario Vattani and the Deputy Dean for Communication and Promotion of the Polytechnic Silvia Barbero.

Piedmont governor Alberto Cirio and Turin Mayor Stefano Lo Russo greeted participants.

Speaking about the importance of the event, Dean Corgnati explained that Expo represents an occasion to "consolidate our presence in Japan in a strategic sector like aerospace, strengthening dialogue with universities and industrial groups".

The Airone project, he added, is the outcome of the "strong character of the University within a field with very high technological density".

The exhibit will be enriched by two meetings including a dialogue on October 3 on scientific collaborations between Italy and Japan called 'Scientific Pathways from Turin to Osaka' and a panel discussion on 'Advanced Air Mobility and the New Space Economy' on October 4.

And the meaning goes beyond the academic debate, Commissioner General Vattani stressed.

"Piedmont has brought technology, innovation and more to Expo, because Italy is presenting itself here as a strategic partner for Japan and Asia, also in view of the 160 years of diplomatic relations which we will celebrate next year", he noted.

Piedmont Governor Alberto Cirio said the mission in Osaka represented a "precious occasion".

"Expo is an extraordinary opportunity to promote the excellence of our Piedmont.

"The Polytechnic is one of our best business cards and it brings here the best of aerospace research, a strategic sector for the region's economy", he explained.

The concept was also expressed by Turin Mayor Stefano Lo Russo who highlighted the role played by the region's main city.

"The Polytechnic's presence in Osaka shows the value of Turin's system, which is able to present a united front on the international scenario.

"Turin and its Polytechnic are a unique force able to design the future of aviation and space with ideas and solutions that showcase Italian excellence", noted the mayor.

The Airone project is inspired by Leonardo da Vinci and his Codex on the Flight of Birds, kept in Turin, in which he wrote: "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward".

And the exhibition space reflects the Renaissance genius's inspiration - dreams and technology are connected to imagine the sky as a space of connection, mobility and new opportunities of sustainable development.

Moreover, Corgnati recalled that the show inaugurates a "new phase of the Polytechnic's presence in Japan, which not only strengthens academic relations but opens a full cooperation with the industrial world".

The Polytechnic, he added, aims to act as a "bridge of innovation, where universities, businesses and the public administration cooperate to bring concrete benefits to citizens".
