【ニューヨーク2013年5月6日PRN＝共同JBN】NBC、ネイチャー（Nature）、Discover、Psychology Today、Palgrave Macmillanのエディターとプロデューサーのグループは6日、新しい種類の科学雑誌Nautilusを発刊すると発表した。Nautilusは最先端の科学、文化、哲学を世界のトップレベルの思想家、作家が語る一つの物語に中に織り込む。

Nautilus（www.nautil.us）はニューヨークを本拠とし、毎月新しいトピックを選択して毎週木曜日に最新号を発刊する。報道特集、物語風に仕上げたノンフィクション、エッセー、ブログポスト、インタビューが含まれるほか、フィクション、挿絵付き物語、インタラクティブなウィジェット、ゲームなども盛り込まれる。短時間の閲覧であろうが長居しようが、どちらも可能である。

すべては創刊号から始まる。「What Makes You So Special（人間はどこがそんなにすごいのか）」。宇宙生物学者が神経学者や短編小説家と協力し、イラストレーターが動物学をペンで説明、さらに仏教徒が宇宙における人間が住む場所について教授する。有名なアーティストのジョン・ヘントリクス氏が描く創刊号では「are humans unique?（人間は特別な存在か？）」という疑問を提起する。

発行人のジョン・スティール氏は「Nautilusは学際的でマルチメディアのストーリーテリングを駆使し、科学の最も深淵（しんえん）な疑問について文字と視覚による独自のアプローチを提供し、われわれの生活において、これらの疑問が持つ重要性を明らかにする。科学者から学者、知的好奇心を持つ人々の誰もがNautilusの厳密な調査スタイルに没頭する」と語った。

                     Science Like You've Never Seen It

     Today a group of editors and producers from NBC, Nature, Discover,

Psychology Today and Palgrave Macmillan announce the launch of Nautilus, a new

kind of science magazine. Nautilus weaves leading-edge science, culture and

philosophy into a single story told by the world's leading thinkers and

writers.

    Based in New York City, Nautilus (www.nautil.us) chooses a new topic every

month and publishes a new chapter every Thursday. It includes reported

features, narrative non-fiction, essays, blog posts and interviews―as well as

fiction, graphic stories, and interactive widgets and games. You can stop in

for just a minute, or stay for an afternoon.

    It all begins with the inaugural issue, What Makes You So Special.

Astrobiologists stand next to neurologists and short story writers,

illustrators take a pen to zoology, and a Buddhist teaches us a lesson about
