Chiba Gov. Morita Visits Taiwan to Seek More Flights to Narita Airport and Lifting of Ban on Farm Imports

Chiba Governor Kensaku Morita visited Taiwan from Oct. 24 to Oct. 30, 2014.

Gov. Morita, in a meeting with Taiwan's Vice President Wu Den-yih at the Presidential Office, asked for his cooperation in increasing the number of flights to Narita International Airport. In a meeting with Lee Chia-chin, chairman of the quasi-official East Asia Relations Commission, the governor delivered a written request calling for the lifting of a temporary ban on import of agricultural and marine products from Chiba Prefecture.

Gov. Morita also held talks with Xue Guang-feng, president of the Taiwan International Association of Education Tours, and Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Ju and reached agreements to establish a wide range of exchange programs, including educational tours.

- Requesting additional flights to Narita Airport

-- In a meeting with Taiwanese Vice President Wu, Gov. Morita requested additional flights between Taiwan's airports and Narita Airport. Wu expressed his support for the governor's proposal, saying it would further develop the relations between Chiba Prefecture and Taiwan and between Japan and Taiwan.

Gov. Morita asked Taiwan's three major airlines to boost the number of flights to Narita airport.

- Requesting the lifting of a temporary ban on import of agricultural and marine products from Chiba Prefecture

-- Gov. Morita met with Lee, chairman of the quasi-official East Asia Relations Commission, to tell him that food products from Chiba Prefecture are safe and handed him a request calling on Taiwan to lift a temporary ban on agricultural imports.

- Implementing economic exchanges

-- A Chiba economic mission, comprising 47 people of 34 groups, had sales negotiations with 90 people representing 58 local travel agencies and other companies.

-- Gov. Morita made a sales pitch at the Chiba Prefecture Economic Seminar to promote his prefecture.

-- A reception was held in a boisterous atmosphere as it drew Taiwanese students on a recent monitoring tour of Chiba Prefecture, officials of Isumi Railway Co. attending a ceremony to sign a sister railway agreement with Jiji Small Railway Line of the Taiwan Railway Administration, and members of a handcrafted armor art group from Otaki, Chiba Prefecture.

-- An event was held to promote Chiba-brewed sake and craft beer which go well with Japanese cuisines.

- Meeting with Xue, president of Taiwan International Association of Education Tours

-- Gov. Morita and Xue shared the view that the two parties should boost mutual exchanges in a wide spectrum of fields.

- Publicizing Chiba Prefecture's attractions on Taiwan TV

-- Gov. Morita appeared on Taiwan Television's International Hot Line Global View, touting Narita International Airport and various sightseeing spots in the prefecture.
