Represents Tokyo region in student exchange
On May 20 and 26, Waseda University will host a group of students from Columbia University, visiting as part of the Japan's Friendship Ties program, sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).
Fifty students from New York will travel to Japan for ten days, realizing the concept announced by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at Columbia last year. Planned activities include visits to business and technology concerns, government agencies, cultural landmarks and natural sights. Visiting students will also make personal contacts with their counterparts at Waseda in Tokyo and Doshisha University in Kyoto.
At Waseda, the Columbia students will have special lectures on Japanese politics and culture, in addition to spending time with students in Waseda's Global Leadership Fellows Program (GLFP), including lunch, a social mixer and campus tour. After visiting western Japan, the Columbia group will return to Waseda for a workshop and reporting session, where visiting students will make presentations on their experience.
Waseda is opening its doors for media coverage of both days at its venues. Please come to experience the interactions between future leaders of the United States and Japan as they learn about each other, their countries and cultures (schedule details below).
To get a glimpse of these young people's discoveries, please respond by 5:00PM, Tuesday, May 19 (Waseda Public Relations contact info below).
