世界マーシャルアーツ大会が忠州で開幕

【忠州（韓国）2019年9月3日 PR Newswire＝共同通信JBN】106カ国から参加の約3200人のマーシャルアーツの達人と関係者が8月30日に韓国・忠清北道の中部に位置する都市、忠州市に集まり、2019年忠州世界マーシャルアーツ・マスターシップが開幕した。

Martial Arts Olympicsともいわれるこの大会は、ソウルの南東約150キロにある忠州の忠州体育館および他の7会場で「Beyond the Times, Bridge the World（時を超え、世界の懸け橋に）」のスローガンの下、9月6日まで開催される。

忠清北道知事で組織委員会責任者の李始鍾氏は「今回のイベントが宗教、人種、国家を超え、そして10代の若者、女性、身体障害者を含むすべての人々にその価値を広げ、世界中のマーシャルアーツ競技者にとって、世界のすべてのマーシャルアーツを継承・発展させる機会になることを望んでいる。」と述べた。

705人の関係者を伴った計2414人の競技者が、ベルトレスリング、柔道、テコンドー、合気道、柔術、ムエタイ、サンボ、サバット、武術太極拳、カバディ、クラッシュ、ブンチャックシラット、韓国ハプキドー、騎射、テッキョン、マーシャルアーツ・レコードコンテスト、マーシャルアーツ・ショー、シルム、統一武道、ヨンムドーといったマーシャルアーツの20種目で271個の金メダルをかけて戦う。

特に、参加選手のうち369人は一流マーシャルアーツ選手で、世界ランキングで8位以上か、この3年間の世界と大陸の大会でメダルを獲得した選手である。

約1万人の市民、要人、アスリート、関係者が出席する中、開会式は忠州総合運動場で開催された。

出席した要人は李洛淵首相、大韓体育会の会長で国際オリンピック委員会（IOC）メンバーのイ・ギフン氏、忠清北道知事で2019年忠州世界マーシャルアーツ・マスターシップ組織委員会の会長も兼ねる李始鍾氏、世界テコンドー連盟総裁で2019年忠州世界マーシャルアーツ・マスターシップの会長も兼任する趙正源氏、元国連事務総長で2019年忠州世界マーシャルアーツ・マスターシップの名誉会長でもある潘基文氏、国際スポーツ連盟機構（GAISF）プレジデントのラファエル・チウリー氏らである。

忠州マスターシップは忠清北道で開催された2番目の大会である。最初の大会は2016年8月に忠清北道の道都・清州で開催された。

World martial arts competition kicks off in Chungju

About 3,200 martial arts masters and officials from 106 countries gathered in

Chungju, a city in the central South Korean province of North Chungcheong, on

August 30 to kick off the 2019 Chungju World Martial Arts Masterships.

The competition, dubbed the Martial Arts Olympics, will continue through Sept. 6

at Chungju Gymnasium and seven other venues in Chungju, about 150 kilometers

southeast of Seoul, under the slogan "Beyond the Times, Bridge the World."

"I hope today's event will serve as an opportunity for the world's martial artists

to inherit and develop all the martial arts of the world, transcending religion,

race and country, and spread their values to all people, including teenagers,

women and the disabled," Lee Si-jong, governor of North Chungcheong Province

and head of the organizing committee, said in his address during the opening ceremony.

A total of 2,414 athletes, accompanied by 705 officials, will compete for 271 gold medals in

20 martial arts categories -- belt wrestling, judo, taekwondo, aikido, ju-jitsu, muay thai, sambo,

savate, wushu, kabaddi, kurash, pencak silat, Korean hapkido, horseback archery, taekkyeon,

martial arts record contest, martial arts show, ssireum, tong-il moo-do and yongmudo.

Notably, the participating athletes include 369 top-notch martial artists, who are ranked

higher than eighth in the world or have won medals in world and continental competitions

in the last three years.

The opening ceremony took place at Chungju Stadium amid an attendance of about

10,000 citizens, dignitaries, athletes and officials.

Dignitaries in attendance included Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon; Lee Kee-heung,

head of the Korean Sports & Olympic Committee and a member of the International

Olympic Committee; North Chungcheong Gov. Lee who doubles as chairperson of the

2019 Chungju World Martial Arts Masterships Organizing Committee; Choue Chung-won,

president of the World Taekwondo Federation, who serves as president of the 2019

Chungju World Martial Arts Masterships; former U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

serving as an honorary president of the 2019 Chungju World Martial Arts Masterships;

and Rafael Chiulli, president of the Global Association of International Sports Federation (GAISF).

The Chungju masterships is the second competition to be held in North Chungcheong Province,

after the first competition was hosted by Cheongju, the capital of the province in August 2016.
