The cycle of events that accompanies Italy's path towards Expo 2025 Osaka continues. The General Commissioner for Italy, Mario Vattani, participated in Japan at the International Symposium 'Smart Food and Nutraceuticals', one of the key events to present the themes related to health and nutraceuticals that Italy will bring to the next Universal Exhibition. The event, which brought together international experts, academics and representatives of the food industry at the Kyoto Shinkin Bank, offered an important opportunity to delve into innovation in the smart food and nutraceutical sectors.

"The Smart Food and Nutraceuticals Symposium represents an important opportunity for discussion on the topics of longevity, nutrition and the new frontiers of scientific research. The Italy Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka will offer a unique opportunity to enhance our universities and innovative projects dedicated to food and health. It will be a space to identify common solutions to the great challenges of our societies, such as the aging of the population, a reality that unites both countries," underlined Ambassador Vattani.

"Italy and Japan also share a great attention to the quality of food, its nutritional aspects and production chains. This approach can strengthen Italian scientific diplomacy in the world and promote new collaborations, in line with the theme of Expo: Designing the society of the future for our lives."

“Italy and Japan share the highest life expectancy in the world, a favorable circumstance that is largely a consequence of their respective dietary habits,” said Giuseppe Pezzotti, Distinguished Professor and Director of the Biomedical Engineering Center of the Kansai Medical University. “Longevity observed on a molecular scale can be linked to the chemistry of foods and, in particular, to their effect on the intestinal and oral flora. This Symposium aims to shed light on this important aspect of our daily habits, in order to provide a scientific basis for the nutraceutical aspects that support our quality of life.”

This event represents a further step forward in the preparation process for the Universal Exhibition, reinforcing the message of Italy as the protagonist of a new food revolution capable of combining tradition, innovation and sustainability.
