BRICS+ Fashion Summit in Moscow Unites Asian Fashion Leaders
TOKYO, Sept. 8, 2025 /B2PRESS/-- While Tokyo pulses with energy during Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo — with runways transforming business centers, streets, hangars and other venues into creative showcases – another major international event has emerged as a formidable force on the global fashion calendar. The recently concluded BRICS+ Fashion Summit in Moscow brought together 65 countries, transforming the Russian capital into a hub for international partnerships.
The Summit brought together over 200 participants from around the world in Moscow. Asia, which has been a trendsetter in the industry lately, was well represented at the BRICS+ Fashion Summit. Delegates from China, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, and numerous other countries participated in this groundbreaking event.
Asia's strong interest in the Russian Summit reflects the region's strategic priorities. Today, Asia stands at the forefront of innovation, design, and consumer demand, experiencing rapid transformation across all sectors. Over 52% of global textile exports come from Asia, and in 2024, consumer spending on clothing and footwear in the region accounted for over 50% of global sales in the sector. Asian brands, designers, and retailers are aggressively expanding their presence beyond traditional borders, making the BRICS+ Fashion Summit – recognized as the largest international discussion platform – an invaluable gateway for accessing new markets.
Throughout the three-day event, a diverse array of stakeholders engaged in crucial industry discussions. Designers, fashion week founders, industry associations, educators from leading fashion universities, government representatives, and other experts addressed key regional challenges, including sustainable production practices, preserving cultural uniqueness, and maintaining employment levels amid increasing automation.
The Summit's standout moment was a dedicated session focused on fashion development across Asia, featuring Jay Ishak, Co-Founder & CEO of International Fashion Chamber Malaysia; Ali Charisma, Advisory Board & Event Director of Indonesian Fashion Chamber, Rizal Tanzil Rakhman, Government Relations & Sustainability Executive at one of the biggest textile companies in Indonesia Pt. Pan Brothers Tbk; Liliek Setiawan, Vice Chairman of Indonesian Textile Association, and Pawan Sachdeva, Board Member of Fashion Design Council of India, among others. The high profile delegates from China included Yang Jian, Executive Chairman of the China Fashion Association and Gu Yeli, Founder of Ontimeshow in Shanghai.
Participants at the Summit explored new avenues for international fashion cooperation and strategies for Asian brands to successfully enter BRICS+ markets. Like Tokyo, Moscow has earned significant recognition as a major fashion hub, especially for rapidly developing economies.
