- ZENRIN DataCom, CROSSFADER Collaborate for iPhone App -

ZENRIN DataCom Co., Ltd. and CROSSFADER Inc. have jointly created "Manga Drive," a whole new augmented reality (AR) iPhone drive game combining real driving and virtual future city modes. Manga Drive (meaning Cartoon Drive) will be made available by CROSSFADER for free download from Apple App Store on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013. Some optional functions will be chargeable.

Manga Drive is meant for passengers, instead of the driver, of a car but progress in the game app, which takes players to time travel and lets them drive around cities of the virtual future world, depends very much on the smoothness of actual driving.

The app detects car speed, acceleration and direction by using GPS and other information obtained in a running car and changes game sequences depending on the traveling direction of the car. Moreover, the app awards a rating for driving smoothness by using GPS and other information in the real driving mode which alternates with the AR future city mode as the game progresses. Not a participant of the game, the driver can nonetheless influence the outcome of the game by driving smoothly as much as possible, giving game-playing passengers extra joy or grief.

* About Manga Drive's special features

- Manga Drive is an AR drive game, alternating between the real driving mode and the AR mode for traveling around the globe by visiting virtual future cities of the world, rating smooth driving in both modes.

- As a passenger-player clears a stage, the car driver will be awarded a rating for smooth driving and given gold points according to the rating. Gold points can be traded for a new car and others in the game.

- As the player points his/her iPhone at one direction or another, the game app will show a different AR sequence linked to the direction. (The player does not have to use any cradle to steady the handset.)

- The iPhone app will work with Apple's Game Center, making it possible for a player to compete with players in other parts of the world.

- The player can post a screenshot of the game in progress on Twitter or Facebook.
