SIGGRAPH Asia 2015 Held in Kobe for First Time!

SIGGRAPH Asia, one of the world's largest digital content conferences and exhibitions, is to be held in Kobe in November 2015, marking the second time for the annual event to be held in Japan -- the first time being in Yokohama in 2009. It is expected to be the largest SIGGRAPH Asia since the first was held in Singapore in 2008.

The Kobe City Government will have a booth in the exhibition, where visitors from Japan and abroad will be able to enjoy demonstrations of content and technologies from ICT companies, groups and other organizations from Kobe. Visitors will be invited to see for themselves how Kobe is aiming to develop further as a leader in the field of IT.

As well as a 4K multi-display in the booth showing presentations and content from each organization, videos of tourist spots in Kobe will be played on a super high-resolution 8K screen.

In collaboration with the Ghost in the Shell: Shin Gekijoban PR project "Kobe Section 9," brand-new illustrations will be used for part of the booth design, and there will be a display of Kobe Section 9 and Kobe City Government IT initiatives.

- About Kobe Section 9

Kobe City is focusing its efforts on promoting tourism and the IT industry, with new initiatives to capitalize on Open Data and Big Data. "SECTION 9" is a special collaborative PR project between Kobe City and Ghost in the Shell: Shin Gekijoban, a popular anime movie which paints a picture of IT city Kobe's future, and includes scenes based in places reminiscent of Kobe.

Since the original "Ghost in the Shell" was released in 1989 by Masamune Shirow, a manga artist from Hyogo Prefecture (in which Kobe is located), numerous movie and TV series have gained the franchise global popularity.
